'66 Jag Dots & Binding

Post by Donny » Sun Oct 08, 2006 10:04 pm

A good buddy of mine just got an early '66 Jag (neck date DEC 65) with dots & binding which is awesome!  Prices seem to be all over the place on these particular "transition" Jags, but he paid $2200 from a local dealer and I told him its a pretty fair price.  Would you guys say that's about right?  The Jag is sunburst, seriously "collector" clean, looks like its barely been played, original case (also immaculate, no road wear or anything)  with the store sticker,l cloth & coily cord.  Original, (deteriorated) foam still on the mute.  I've seen these sell for as little as $1800 but as much as $3000 when they're this clean, so i thought the price was decent.  what do you think? (PS - this is also one of the best playing & sounding Jags I've ever encountered)
you're getting way too much reverb ...

yeah pretty good value.....  especially given in 2 or 3 years it'll be 50% dearer!!!

Donny... could you find out what the serial no. is for this dec 65 jag.  I am collecting data of serial nos. verses year of manufacture  (neck dates)

thanks

i'll check the serial # next time i see the guitar.  I would consider this one a '66 because it has F tuners & an F on the neck plate.

plenty of "dots and binding" in 65 and in 66.  F tuners also are readily found in late 65.
The odds are the jaguar you are describing is a 66, but the neck datye of dec 65 is what I'll use  (other than getting a date off the body)  Pot dates are somehwhat unreliable given that fender sometimes purchased "mountains" of pots at the same time.

It's a bit odd - so there is dots and binding with F tuners, and blocks and binding with Klusons (like my new Feb 66 JM)

Yeah, my '66 Jazz has a late '66 neck date and a double line Klusons.
