Re: MOTORIK II - tuner cock-up and mock-up

So, four sets of useless conversion bushings later, I decided to stop messing around and just drill out a set of 6mm ones to fit these tuners using a 1/4" HSS bit:

Image

They got really hot and expanded while I was doing it, so I had to let them cool and run the drill through again to get the right diameter. Used a sharp countersink bit to take off the fash round the edge:

Image

Then inserted them the same way I took the old ones out, running a line of superglue round the inside of the hole beforehand.

Image

Looks fine - I'd have preferred much slimmer ones, but the moral of the story is to choose yr tuners before you drill yr neck. Once again, learning the hard way. On the plus side, I now have a lifetime's supply of tuner bushings weighing down the shelf in my shed...

The old F-tuner holes are just about hidden.

So now the only thing stopping me completing this is lunch! Sun is shining - outdoor photoshoot coming up :)

Ben, since I built/restored my partscaster vintage jag and fitted a set of 64 mustang klusons, I am really liking the white/off white buttons. funny how what was perceived as the "cheap" version nbow looks quite classy.

I like them so much I think I'll use white button gotoh "klusons" on the strat I am currently building/putting together.

looking forward to the completion photos
relaxing alternative to doing actual work ...

:-* :-* That is pure class, all those details complement the design so well.
The levitation feature is interesting- do all guitars with Jag pickups do that? ;)

Amazing work, Ben. If it plays and sounds half as good as the original MOTORIK, it'll still be incredible. One day, when I have actual money, I'm going to commission you to build me one. Assuming you can wait a couple of decades. ;)
