Full Scale Jaguar
Hey people (whom are more knowledgeable than I),
I really love the sound of a jaguar but the short scale bothers me. I was thinking I might want to get a jaguar and then get someone to make a full 25" scale neck and get it replaced. How much of the jaguar sound has to do with that scale? I feel like it's probably negligible but I just wanted to ask. I realize this is fairly expensive but I am a lefty and I am already looking at spending 1400 to get a japanese one so if i am already getting hosed i might as well get really hosed.

Re: Full Scale Jaguar
You may well need to move the bridge in order to intonate properly, I'm not entirely sure in the case of JG/JMs, but that's the case with other guitars.
If I were you I'd buy a jazzmaster & convert it into a jaguar the pickups, control plates & rewiring would set you back less than a new neck, moving the bridge, refinishing, etc.

I own a fender Jaguar Fuji-gen Plant 94-95 with matching headstock (red), is it a crappy japanese model, or is it ok ?
I can't find any information

Re: Full Scale Jaguar
I don't think MIJs are crappy at all!! I think some of Fender's best work has come out of Japan in recent years!dietzebra wrote:hi, sorry for bringing this in here but i couldn't find how to post a new topic .

Some people here like to upgrade the pickups in their MIJ Fenders, but I like mine just fine, they sound great to my ears.. that's about the only complaint you'll ever hear about MIJ Fenders, the electronics! easily fixed if you feel the urge, but if you're happy then that's all that matters!

Re: Full Scale Jaguar
I think part of what makes a Jaguar sound like it does is the shorter scale-- that and the pickups of course. If you are looking to spend $1,400 and have this special plan I'd suggest contacting stereordinary (Paul) and see what he could build for you. My guess is that your price might be close to what he'd charge.

Re: Full Scale Jaguar
Andrewdoeshair has made conversion necks for Jaguars to get something like the 25.5" scale without any other modification to the guitar.
So I pretend there aren't ten strings tied to all ten of my fingers.

First of all... LOL!ifeelpretty wrote:I realize this is fairly expensive but I am a lefty and I am already looking at spending 1400 to get a japanese one so if i am already getting hosed i might as well get really hosed.
Second of all...
Depending on all of the specs you want, like finish, wood types, etc., there's a possibility I could build you something in your price range. I don't charge anything extra for lefties for one thing.Jaguar018 wrote:If you are looking to spend $1,400 and have this special plan I'd suggest contacting stereordinary (Paul) and see what he could build for you. Re: Full Scale Jaguar
I did a long scale hybrid using a JM body and neck, but with Jag appointments and Strat pickups. It would be fairly straightforward to do a 2 pickup Jag version if you are even remotely handy.

Re: Full Scale Jaguar
I also made a 25.5" scale Jaguar 2 years ago. As far as the sound goes, it sounds like a jag, just a bit deeper.
I also have a Jazzmaster and I currently have a regular Jag in for some repair, so this morning I compared the 3 and the Full scale Jaguar (with AVRI Jag pu's, and Jag hardware) sounds much more like the regular Jaguar then the regular Jazzmaster.
So a lot of the sound is in the pick ups. Though the attack might be a bit different due to the scale, but much less then I would have imagined.
I made this guitar for the same reasan as the original poster said, I too am not to comfortable with the Shorter scale.
Anyway, my Full scale Jaguar (or Jazzuar, as I sometimes call it) is a guitar that gets played a lot, perhaps even more then my Jm.

Re: Full Scale Jaguar
One thing you could do is this:
If you have a Strat neck lying around, put the Strat neck on the Jag.
Then, if you happen to have a Gretsch or Guild holowbody, take the floating bridge off the Gretsch and use that as the bridge on the Jag. You'll place it aprox .75" lower than where the original bridge sits.
I haven't tried it yet, but I am thinking of doing this as I have both a Strat neck and a Gretsch bridge to use.
It would be easy way to test whether or not there is any noticeable difference in tone before you started spending tons of money.

Re: Full Scale Jaguar
Here's a old pic of the Jazzuar aka Full Scale Jaguar (with a Affinity Squier Strat neck, Tusq Bridge and CIJ Trem)
It now has a 96 MIJ Jm neck, AVRI Jm bridge and Trem. Guard is soon to be replaced by a mint green one and I'm gonna do a matching headstock too.

Medium scale - a Mustang is short scale - considerably shorter than a Jag.

Re: Full Scale Jaguar
Somewhere on some forum, not sure if it was offsetguitars.com, I saw an accurate blueprint type overlay of a Jaguar and a Jazzmaster that showed just how the bridge placement needed to be. It was pretty cool, I'll try to find it and post it here.
