Original (and not so original) design template thread
Hello everyone.
For a few weeks I'm toying with the idea that would be cool if the ideas of original (or not) designs and templates could be available to OSG members. And this thread http://www.offsetguitars.com/forums/vie ... =8&t=52158 was the last encouragement I needed (Did you see the Icefly?).
There's enough knowledge and energy here at the OSG to post our original designs, templates, etc, of our versions of guitars, our "frankensteins" or our versions of old classics, or even not so popular guitars (I mean, who have a template or outline for a Eko Kadett or a Jolana Star X for example? ).
If someone at the forum is making templates and drawings for their own guitars (and is not selling or planning to sell this designs), he can post this design to someone copy, modify, etc...
That's it. A idea and a crude post just to get the ball rolling. With time this thread will grow and (I hope) can be useful for all the router jockeys at the OSG.
To begin, I'm posting this idea that I already posted here at the OSG (http://www.offsetguitars.com/forums/vie ... =8&t=49066)about a Mos-Backer guitar inspired by Nik's Nova.
If someone of you guitar builders found this design a brilliant idea and want to build and sell this, fine to me, but send me a body at least... . No, seriously, no strings attached.

Here it is! It's a dano pro body that I offset and added a cut away. Dimensions are roughly to fender neck pocket specs. I wouldn't make a neck pocket template just based off these drawings though! And the resolution on the pdf is 200 DPI
I may build it one day. And feel free to use it yourself! I'd love to see someone have a go at it! Especially stereordinary or ADH

Eko Kadett outline
The Eko Kadett...
The outline was obtained importing a good frontal photo of the body to a vector software (Inkscape), scaling accordingly and tracing the outline. If there's a error, is not bigger than 1 or 2 mm than the real thing.

Rostov Aelita (Ростов-на-Дону "Аэлита")
Slow day at work...Here's my take at the Rostov Aelita (Ростов-на-Дону "Аэлита") (first offset!)
I was thinking in make a tracing of a "tulip" guitar and the Teisco ET-200 was the likely candidate, then I remembered of this one and thought "Why not? This is a tulip OFFSET guitar..."
And to make things extra fun (I mean, beyond the glitter in the pickguard and in the headstock), this version of the Aelita is presented with a JM and a P-90 pickup.
PDF: http://img850.imageshack.us/img850/6646/aelita.pdf
I took some more liberties, like in the body/neck junction, in the headstock and, of course, the vibrato.
But I think that this version
http://www.cheesyguitars.com/aelita_clone_jamie.html
is a bit more elegant.
Well, here it is. Enjoy!

that is sweeeet. so much better than an original dano pro imo, i bet it'd look sick with tele hardware... procaster?Leviman wrote:Here it is! It's a dano pro body that I offset and added a cut away. Re: Original (and not so original) design template thread
This reminds me of an idea I had and immediately forgot. It would be fun/potentially infuriating to try and group-design an "official" OSG guitar. All aspects of it's design would be voted on through polls. We'd probably end up with a guitar that no-one really loved, but that would be part of the fun. "Man, is this headstock ass, but so-and-so really liked it and he probably hates that pickguard I really wanted!"
I assume we'd want to pick body shape/contour, pickguard, and headstock. Everything else would be open to personalization.
How ridiculous does this sound?

Univox UC2 reverse
An original (in a sense) here for a change. This is a design I made reversing and tweaking a few things in the underdog (but beloved for a few around here) Univox UC2.

This is a habit I have. To imagine guitars flipped around and think if it would be cool. I will not show the intermediate stages in the design, but the final project with a Rick-like treatment.
Here it is:

Crap! It totally reminds me of a design I had been working on some years ago. Thinking I was soooo original in thinking the Pro could use a redesign.Leviman wrote:

Definitely different! Probably about as similar as a jazzmaster vs. a jaguar or something!duncanjames wrote:Crap! It totally reminds me of a design I had been working on some years ago. Thinking I was soooo original in thinking the Pro could use a redesign.Leviman wrote:
