Fender To release Kurt Cobain Mustang!!!

Post by codog » Fri Jan 06, 2012 10:23 pm

Well we have all been discussing this for years, and rumor has it that based on the success of the kurt cobain Jaguar they're releasing the Kurt cobain mustang(the credibility of the site is questionable, but i did see someone post about it on fenders forum as well).
Anyways the word is that there is a replica of his Fiesta red and sonic blue from the in utero tour. And a competition model with no matching heading and a humbucker in the bridge, check out the pics.

Is this just an import of the FJ model?

Never been a massive fan of Nirvana or anything, but this looks like a nice mod platform...

I've always wanted a mustang but buying one has always been a bit down my list of "wants". This may have changed that! The Fiesta Red just looks so right.

Is there an anticipated release date?

I just realized, that this is Fender's 3rd KC model. I don't think anyone else has 3 different models with their name on it.

You'd think they would at least do one of the greener ones with the matching headstock SLTS style...

You know, if it is going to have his name on it and all. Or just don't put his name on it - I'd prefer that anyway.

I'm a huge Nirvana fan and would probably do this mod if I ever had 2 mustangs, but when buying one I don't need Kurt's name slapped on to it. It's not like it's a signature model done to the specs of his mustang (like his jag, which is a pleasant play), so why not just be like, "Hey guys we love offsets, here's another model, because they rule and we love to give our customers variety!"

I know they are trying to sell more, but people who care know he played mustangs, that's why they got to charge so damn much for the reissues in the first place...

I saw the Cobain Jag in person. It's real purdy, and the street price is around $1200.

Why did I just post in this thread? :fp:

I believe he was referring to the KC Jaguar as $1,200. The Fender NAMM thread shows a MAP of $999 on the Mustangs.

This style Mustang is accurate from the "In Utero" era. He toured mostly with the Fiesta Red and the Sonic Blue that they nicknamed "Sky Stang." I think there were three of them. The Competition Stang is, however, inaccurate as we see from the photos above.

I'm still impressed that Kurt Cobain gets three Fender guitars to his name. I guess the Jag and the Mustang make up for the hideous Jag-stang. I prefer the OSG members rework of the idea.

Which reinforces the logic behind selling signature models - generation-targeted marketing.

It also seems as if they do Fender versions of these first, let everyone buy them, and then release the Squier version, kind of like an expensive hardback edition of a book that is out for several months before the paperback is released. It's all about the margins...
