Mustang Info For Newbie
Hi All... just joined, although I've been admiring offsets for years. Recently (finally) picked up one of the '69 Mustang reissues and I'm in love. I realize that Jazzmasters and Jags get all the glory in the offset world, but I thought I'd get some feedback from the true hardcores. What's the consensus? I love mine, and nothing you can say will change my mind, but I'm a big fan of Jazzmasters too (one day, when the money is rolling in...!). Thoughts? I'd love to hear 'em....

Re: Mustang Info For Newbie
An easier guitar to play with a smaller body, sclae, and neck.
I have a '69 in Competition Orange that I take to gigs on occassion. The best part is that you can cut the hum...although the sound is a bit "thin" doing so. The trem is a good one, but because the sustain isn't that strong, the note is pretty much gone by the time you get to the bar!
GREAT guitars. They were "budget" models that didn't scrimp on playability.

Competition Stripes make them play FASTER.

Oh man, awhile back I was going to buy a 65' mustang, all original and "played like a dream" for $950 cdn.
I've been kicking myself for not buying it when I had the money.
Off-topic, sorry.

Been GASing for a Mustang for a while now. I'm a big fuckoff bear of a fellow though (not super tall, but people at gigs tend to assume I'm security), and 'Stangs look a little toylike on me. So does my Jaguar, though, and that's never stopped me.
Lovely guitars. Liking this specimen from Ishibashi, btw.

Yeah, I'm all about 70s Fenders. I know, I know, CBS era was evil and produced some evil guitars, but fuck it - I like those 70s stylings

Me too! I like them! Sure, the ratio of bad to good was higher in the 70s, but that doesn't mean they were ALL bad. One of my favorite guitars, (ever) and one that I wish I still had... was a natural all original '77 $trat hardtail. It was gorgeous; ash, light, solid, and sounded very sweet.Yeah, I'm all about 70s Fenders.
I like those maple neck mid-70s Mustangs alot too.

I am starting to regret it now... but I passed on the chance to buy two Mustangs this summer for 775$ CDN (about 725$ US).StevenO wrote: Oh man, awhile back I was going to buy a 65' mustang, all original and "played like a dream" for $950 cdn.

They were both "parts-stang" mostly made of 1965-66 parts. One had no serial numbers, but the other had a 1965 L-Series neck plate.
I passed on them because I wanted to buy a Jazzmaster instead (which I did)... But now that the prices for the Mustangs have gone upwards too, I'm thinking I might have missed a great opportunity.. I'd probably resell them or part them out, though. I think Mustangs are beautiful, but too small for me.
It's a three hour drive, but the more I think of it, I might take the chance to see if they're still at the store...

I'd like to get my hands on one of these very soon... Has anyone played one of these '65 CIJ reissues?

I have...and although it doesn't quite stack up to my 64, it's damn close. You won't be sorry...batchainpuller wrote: I'd like to get my hands on one of these very soon... Has anyone played one of these '65 CIJ reissues?

I'm really digging those 65' reissue mustangs.
Perhaps in the near future I could try one out and bring it home if I like it.
I've always wanted a mustang.

Re: Mustang Info For Newbie
After having mine only a few weeks, I'm still in heaven with this. Some gorgeous tones, nice crunch, and I'm digging the tremelo, which I hadn't had a lot of experience with before getting this... I tried one of the '65 CIJ reissues, and I LOVED it, but I think I preferred the contours on the '69... but I'd probably be saying just the opposite if I'd walked out with one of the '65s!
