I actually have this lp around here somewhere. Picked it up when I ran a record store back in the early 80's. So yeah, it's vinyl. And if I recall, it's pretty bad-ass.

Nothing short of amazing!! Disregard the hamming it up from Clarke tis merely a distraction from the absolute ridiculous guitar skills on display!!

Great vid. I love the rag style. Kind of reminds me of this guy, Phil Baugh --> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nwws6XPZ1JM" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
One of my favorite youtube videos. Buck Owens and Don Rich were amazing together. IMO Rich is really an under-appreciated guitar player.

Just imagine if in the 90's Kurt Cobain, Layne Staley, and Eddie Vedder had been on a sitcom.tdbajus wrote:Took me about 20 years to figure out that Buck Owens and Roy Clark weren't comedians, but two of the greatest country musicians ever. Youtube sort of fails- Owens did an embarrassing amount of lipsyncing for TV appearances- don't let that throw you. During times of unexpected heartbreak, I have been known to celebrate my AMerican heritage by drinking whiskey and listening to Mr Owens. Glenn Campbell too, actually.
It's frighteningly similar.

ok.. you all know that that was him syncing to a pre-recorded track, right? and not to take away his playing skills, but it may have been sped up in the mastering. Even Les Paul did that.
Roy Clark, Don Rich, Buck Owens.. uhh.. yeah.. always heavy players before He-Haw.. i don't even think of that show when i think of them.

My father loved watching Hee Haw. I watched it too. I couldn't stand Buck Owens at the time, but even on that show at my age, I could appreciate Roy Clark's skills.
Now, I understand where Buck Owens (and Don Rich) fit into the scheme of great music, great guitar music. I even have some Owens songs on my iPod.
I love that video of Mr. Clark. Very impressive.

The faces are the best part of it for me. Playing fast... meh. Being a goofball on national TV? Awesome.

Roy Clark is totally lip-syncing.
I know he's good, but its hard to appreciate it considering the tune is only really endearing for it's novelty value. While it has all the chops, unfortunately it doesn't have any of the charm or depth of Django.
I appreciate the dexterity and technique and general knowledge of the fretboard. It is impressive. But I prefer what Hendrix has going on... namely being so expressive that you're able to fuck something up slightly every eight or so bars and have everyone neither notice nor give a shit.
Same thing with the Jokers, I like their sound but the early 60s was ripe with novelty tunes, I kept expecting 'sabre dance' to launch into a medley involving 'flight of the bumblebee' and 'popcorn'.
Charo clip is killer though, she a real underrated guitar player.
I like this old broad http://www.youtube.com/watch?NR=1&featu ... Ac56ePauLQ" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Sure, it's kinda blues by numbers, but she's got a lot of heart.

Funny you should post this, there was a thread over at HC with a clip of Roy on The Odd Couple, of all things, tearin' it up on a Martin acoustic! That one was live. -Adam

Taught by Andrés Segovia. Though I only knew her as the ditzy gal on TV. Damn she can play.LanceM71 wrote: ↑Mon Oct 15, 2012 9:03 amLove that Roy Clark clip. It led me to this one of Charo. I saw this video somewhere else quite a while ago, and was as impressed by the playing as everyone else (potential lip syncing scandal aside).
One thing I didn't notice until I watched it again, though: is he sweep picking!?
