Horay - got my Thin Skin Jaguar (LPB) today !

Post by -Philipp- » Thu Jul 10, 2008 8:58 am

Horay - I got my Thin Skin Jaguar from Dave's today ! It's lake placid blue, great finish and I love it ! I can stick with the bigger frets I think - that was my deepest concern.  I love the mint green guard and the neck radius.

Unfortunatly I'm kind of in a hurry, but before I have to leave, I wanted to share some pics with you.
Its a litte greener as in the pictures though and has a mint green guard:

and one movie (no sound samples from the Jag though)
short movie, no sound samples though (avi, playable e.g. with VLC Player)

I'll keep you updated ... have to leave now  :'(

It has to do with the finish and I think that is it

:wtf: well, youll get some VERY different answers depending on who you ask but the idea is to have les finish on the body and let the wod "breath" and resonate more... but yeah that very question has open numerous interweb cans of worms...  ???  lol
make feedback, not war. pick it up! pick it up! up, up!

Yeah I was confused about what "thin skin" meant too.

What is it called when the paint is thin enough that you can still see the wood grain through it? I have a maroon-ish Highway-1 Telecaster that is like this, but I don't know what to call it when I'm describing it to people.

EDIT: sweet looking Jag, by the way!

A heavy finish will change the tone of the guitar.  The vintage ones have a thin nitrous coating that was changed for sometime as that paint is toxic so other finishes were used.

You aren't joking!

I got my first nitro as a college graduation present (in May of this year), and I'm already starting to notice some wear! Granted my band has been playing a lot of gigs recently (and it didn't help when one of my band mates accidentally slammed the head of his guitar into the body of mine, causing a pencil eraser sized divot  :wtf: ) but it has been happening a lot faster than I expected. I've had my CIJ JM since 2004, and it's Poly finish is only now starting to show wear.

I like the way naturally relic-ed guitars look, but I still cringe every time something happens to my guitar! I think it's like with children, they're still a baby in your mind until one day you notice they're all grown up and going off to college! And then you're just like "WTF! I just got you last month!"

That looks great!
I was a little hesitant about the Lake Placid Blue when I ordered my JM.  But this confirmed that it is awesome.

Good choice.

Is Lake Placid Blue a metalic color?

Just wondered. If it is, that's another plus.

Is it the thin skin that makes the LPB look much older and faded?  I think that your guitar looks amazing, I'm not a fan of the more saturated LPB that I see on other guitars.  Then again, I nit pick colors...it's what I do for a job, haha.
