Jagmaster wiring question - 1 hum + 1 phat cat

Post by Boscis » Thu Jul 07, 2011 2:18 am

Hi there,

I recently purchased a Silver Sparkle CIC Jagmaster (25.5" scale) and I was looking for some advice (and wiring diagrams if possible!) about upgrading the electronics in the guitar. I've listed the stuff I'm planning on adding. Any advice would be great.

Bridge pickup:
Seymour Duncan Custom 5 (TB-14)

Neck pickup:
Seymour Phat Cat (SPH90-1)

1 x Volume CTS Audio (500k or recommended)
1 x Tone CTS Linear (500k or recommended)
.022uf Orange drop capacitor or better
3 way switch

I'm open to options but ideally I would like to upgrade the two pickups & replace the electronics with better quality, more suitable parts.

I like the idea of having a better humbucker at the bridge and the Phat Cat single coil at the neck to give me more options.

The sort of music I play is mainly electronica / modern classical / electro-acoustic / ambient stuff but I'm hoping to add instrumental rock band type of tones to some of that with the guitar.

Again, any hep, advice, diagrams or discussion is welcome!

Seems like nothing special. You'll find schematic on SD site.
Electronics values are good.
Go for it.
Cats are not what they seem...

They have 1 Phat Cat in the Neck and 1 HB in the bridge with 2 vols and 1 tone and a 3-way here. Unfortunately they don't have it configured with one volume.

So, since I literally just wired up a Jagmaster last night, I threw this together on Pixlr:

That's fantastic!

What humbucker / single coil combo did you go with then?

I got it for my girlfriend. I wired her up a tonezone in the bridge and an air Norton in the neck. She's just starting out so I didn't want her to deal with the 60 cycle hum. Nice basic wiring...

My experience with phatcats has always been positive. You wired it up yet? How does the combo sound?

I've not made the upgrade yet.

How's the Tone Zone & Air Norton combo? I'd not looked into that one but it seems like they work nicely together!

Also, did you have to a buy a specific spacing or size or do the stock ones drop in as replacements on the Jagmaster?

Cheers.

Standard spacing fit just fine...worked fine in the Jagmaster. The Air Norton/ToneZone combo is nice, but I find a lot of humbuckers kind of bland. The best humbucker combo is the Duncan Jazz/JB, IMO. That, or P-Rails...because P-Rails are the shitttt.
