Lucite and Aluminum Guitars/Basses
Was looking into these guys for a long time... Just wondering what's the deal with them? What's the sound like? How heavy are they?
Just based on the material I know that they would have a lot of sustain.

Re: Acrylic and Aluminum guitars and basses
I own a Travis Bean, which, as everybody would know, aluminum neck, wood body, with a neck through construction. I have an all aluminum guitar in order from EGC, I have no experience with perpex guitars, outside of hearing the odd one live. I have become a total aluminum convert since owning my Bean, it is hands down the nicest and easiest paying guitars I have owned, and the sound is amazing, sustain for days, and tons of clarity. When I getvmy EGC I'll post a bit on what it feels and sound alike, but I am expecting good things. yeah, they are heavy, but I don't find it unbearably heavy, and I have an earlier model standard with the thicker body. I have seen a TB Artist weighed at almost 12 pounds, but generally they would be a bit less, I would say mine is about 8 or so.
For more budget oriented aluminum based guitars there are the Kramer ones, but I have no experience with them.

I LOVE the old Dan Armstrong lucite basses. Here's one of my '70 DA basses a few years ago.

Re: Acrylic and Aluminum guitars and basses
one of my old band mates had a aluminium guitar. the thing was a fucking treble machine. he always used the neck pickup because the bridge was too trebly
as for acrylic ive tryed one of those basses and it sounded kinda...... intresting. not a sound i'd use

i played a show with a band called yogurt smoothness, which is a guitar-drums duo. the guy had an egc and got an incredibly thick sound out of it. the guitar is pretty impressive and it should be for how much the thing costs.
didn't ovation make some acoustics with aluminum necks?

My DAs had a really nice growling thump for short scale basses. One of the most "fun" basses to play. Pickups are pretty powerful. Sold one and kept the all-original one.

is here anyone who ever heard of Don Vito from Leipzig/Germany? Heiko is playing an all-aluminium guitar and sounds überfantastic:

What about an acrylic body... And aluminum neck and headstock? For bass or guitar... Very interesting to me haha.

Kevin from EGC has made quite a few lucite guitars with aluminum necks, never played or heard one myself, on the Tym guitars blog he has also about a Perspex guitar with an aluminum neck, check it out here:nightterrors wrote:What about an acrylic body... From what I understand lucite can be heavy, but surprisingly resonant? Someone with experience might be able to chip in here.
Even though I haven't got my first EGC yet, I have already thought of a new build, Travis Bean Wedge lucite body, Fender Bass VI scale baritone. I like the idea of being able to fuse two toes of guitars I'll never be able to afford, with my original build, I've fused a TB500 and a Veleno, and my other idea is a TB Wedge Bass VI.
I agree with what McSleazy said about treble, while I wouldn't say that my TB is too trebly on the bridge, I do rarely use it, as the middle and neck selections provide some much more depth and clarity.

Re: Acrylic and Aluminum guitars and basses
Interesting. What would an aluminum bass sound like? Or the body lucite/acrylic and the neck and headstock aluminum? Would it be very trebly as well? Does anyone on here have any experience with one?nrs24985 wrote:Kevin from EGC has made quite a few lucite guitars with aluminum necks, never played or heard one myself, on the Tym guitars blog he has also about a Perspex guitar with an aluminum neck, check it out here:nightterrors wrote:What about an acrylic body...
