Single Humbucker Wiring Issue
My buddy wanted me to empty his control cavity and replace the parts with a Seymour Duncan JB humbucker and quality electrical parts. I bought a wiring kit from All parts for a Les Paul Jr thinking that would do the trick.
I tried to put it together today but I've got big issues. The signal goes through but the volume control goes from ten to zero and the tone control does not work. I'm attaching the wiring diagram and pictures of my control cavity, hoping you guys can sort out a beginner's work. Thanks!

Re: Single Humbucker Wiring Issue
That diagram is wrong, the hot signal shouldn't go to either pot casing.
Go with this,

Thanks for the new schematic! I thought the wiring diagram was wrong so I attached the hot wire to the volume pots first (or is it third?) lug. I'll double check my wiring to see if it matches up with your advice. Where is the ground wire for the pickup going in your schematic?

Oh man, I also just remembered caps have polarity!! I might have solder the positive and negative leads wrong... I will check when I get home...

i'm fairly certain tone caps do not have polarity....Sonicxyouth wrote:Oh man, I also just remembered caps have polarity!! I might have solder the positive and negative leads wrong... I will check when I get home...

Then that's one less thing for me to check! Thanks!

Re: Single Humbucker Wiring Issue
Okay, I've looked it up and can confirm the cap I'm using is nonpolarized. Caps can either be poparized or nonpolarized and most in guitar circuits are the latter. Thanks for the help!

Re: Single Humbucker Wiring Issue
Ground is ground everywhere, the ground for the pickup should be connected to the sleeve of the jack, the back of the pots, one end of the tone cap, and the opposite side of the volume pot to the hot signal. It's shown as the black wires in the diagram I posted above.Sonicxyouth wrote:Thanks for the new schematic! Re: Single Humbucker Wiring Issue
Looking over my picture, it seems I have connected all the wires in the right places for the first schematic except for the ground connections from the pickup. For the second schematic, its veryyyy different from what I did. Different strokes for different folks?

No, the allparts diagram is wrong. The pot cases should be grounded.

I meant the difference between the diagram you provided and the Seymour Duncan diagram daCod provided! Thanks for the replies and helping me out

Re: Single Humbucker Wiring Issue
I have gotten it sort of working... The tone control does not work but the volume does. I think I fried the cap actually so I'll have to get another one.
