Amp Identification

Post by Thesmellofrain » Thu Nov 29, 2007 5:00 am

hi

I traded my old tele copy for an old Yamaha amp, they amp sounds great, but I would really like to know more about it. It supposedly should be about 20ish years old. has a really weird reverb("waterish").

Ive got a picture, the yamha logo is behind the duct tape, and the picture is kindof odly resized, it has the shape of a twin reverb.

does anybody have any info about this amp? anything would be appreciated.

That looks like the YTA-45.

You can get a manual for a few GBP here:

Or maybe you can find one scanned somewhere - surely there's some Yamaha amp fan page or something.

smelly -

All the Yamahas in that line are primo SS amps: crisp and completely usable.  One of my top five SS lines (along with 70s Univox/Unicord/Stage, orange-face Randall, Polytone, and, of course, Roland).

You have a nice amp there.  Well done.

wow, nice! I never thought it would be that nice. Any Idea about how old it could be? its completely reworked too, since a rat family built a nest in it out of wires and cloth. this amp has history!

It's nice in that it is a good sounding, straight-forward amp: they aren't super valuable or collectible or anything like that, but they are usable and often inexpensive and fit into my Fall/Wire/Swell Maps playing styles.  As you write, the reverb is a little different (and the trem might be a bit weak) but those are just icing - and can be replaced with better outboard pedals - to the amp itself.  I knew someone who had a 4X10 amp from this line who used it for live gigging for years - and then switched to using it as a makeshift PA for vocals and it was a big winner.

I think this line - with this grill cloth - is from the 1980s, but someone else might be able to correct me.

I think the knob style on these is very cool looking!
