Neat Solid State Amp from 60s

Post by dinosaur » Sat Apr 12, 2008 6:22 am

Just wanted to show some pics of this Baldwin C1 Custom Professional I picked up last week, as well check if anyone new much about it.  I've never owned an older solid state amp before, and I really love the way it sounds.  Not to mention that it's just fun to mess around with and looks pretty neat.

It's got two channels and channel 1 has a really nice tremelo, a reverb that is decent (I saw an online review ripping the reverb, but it's not that bad at all), and the kicker - Supersound!  Basically in normal mode you just use the bass and treble knobs, but you can flip a switch to Supersound and then you use these 5 colored preset eq buttons instead.  The best part is that you can use both normal and Supersound modes at the same time, and that's been my favorite so far.  I'm really impressed with the clean sound and it takes pedals as least better than I thought it would.  Channel 2 is just vol, bass, treble.

It's 45 watts,  2 12" Oxfords that date to 67, and it's pretty well-built with a hand-wired board.  It takes foot pedals for both the reverb and tremelo.  Just had a full cap job and got a new 3 prong cord before I bought it.

It's kind of like a Fisher-Price My First Twin.

Here are some pics from the previous owner (my camera is MIA  :():

I like how the "MID 1" button looks like "MIDI" at first glance. Having a 1960s solid state amp that can handle MIDI signals would be a pretty rare item indeed.  :P

i think that is the most cool amp i have ever seen. that is the only thing the vintage-things are good for: odd-looking instruments and amps. :D
