Sunn Beta Bass

Post by Brock the Mod » Thu Apr 24, 2025 3:14 pm

I found one at a pretty decent price with a 1x15 speaker convertible cab

My gf needs a better bass amp and i wouldnt mind trying it out myself.

My only question is since its solid state, could I get bedroom levels with it or would it blow my walls?

The nice thing about solid state amps is that there really isn't a "sweet spot" like in tube amps so the crushing distortion Betas are known for is easier to achieve at bedroom levels. I had a Hilbish Beta and it sounded basically the same wherever I set the master volume. It may struggle to keep up at a medium-larger gig, especially if you're trying for cleaner tones on bass, with that single, less efficient, 15" speaker though.

They're cool amps, I kinda miss my Hilbish for my Dano UB2 Bass VI, but it is sort of a one trick pony kinda amp, imho.

If it has the original footswitch you're in luck and those sell for a good amount.

We ended up getting it. So far she likes it. It was less then 600$ with the convertible 1x15 with no footswitch.
I figured if she absolutely hated it she could probably get her money back and flip it.

Youre absolutely right about the tone stability at any volume though. I was pretty surprised how quiet we got it, none of my tube amps do that lol

It's a cool amp for sure and I would have bought that for $600 absolutely! It's almost the same amp as the guitar version (minus reverb) so plug your guitar in and set one channel for cleans and the other for dirt and blend to taste!
