anyone ever played any of these?
I found a couple super cheap, I was thinking about getting one as a backup.
I'd like to have it biased for 6550 and possibly change the preamp tubes.

Re: peavey windsor
I got one from Guitar Center for 100 dollars because it had microphonic tubes.. stil waiting to have it fixed.
That being said, in the short time I gave it for a workout, it was awesome. Not versatile at all, but some great mid-gain to relatively high gain sounds. Great for punk rawk, hair metal, classic rock, etc.
There's actually some good youtube clips up of a guy playing a strat and a les paul through a Windsor, and he gets some lovely tones.
What sort of sound were you looking for out of one?

Re: peavey windsor
I'd say you could definetly manage some of the more distorty sounds, but it definetly wouldn't be the same.
If anything, I think the Windsor is more in tune with JMP MV and JCM 800 amps in character than Plexi stuff.
There's been a lot of discussion on the Peavey forums about experimenting with different preamp tubes to try and clean things up a little, but it hasn't seemed to have met a large amount of success.
If you're looking for more of Plexi tone on a budget, I'd look at the following amps (ebay and craigslist are your friends here):
Sovtek MIG60 (Soviet built clone of Fender Bassman/Marshall JTM amps. Pretty nice sounding, a few guys on here have Sovteks)
Laney Supergroup (there was recently a thread on these here, still kind of cheap on the 'bay)
Good hunting!

Re: peavey windsor
I would totally go for the sovteks and laneys over the peavey.
I just had someone offer me one mega cheap.
I just don't want to buy it and mess with it if its not gonna do what I want.
