Re: Guitar through a bass amp?
I just saw an interesting band from the UK called Frightened Rabbit. My friend tour/road managed their US tour. They have 3 guitars (all teles!) going at once. Sometimes the 'bassist' will run his tele into a bass amp. He'll play bass occasionally but I saw him use the tele more often. It was an interesting sound, pretty cool. Sometimes he'd play a Roland floor-bass synth, a big unit with pedals similar to the old Taurus units. I had never heard of them but they have been selling out shows here in the US.

verily, many a recording situation has ended up with bass through a guitar amp because often it will sit better in a mix. Probably even some records you've heard. You have to be a little careful of the speakers though, sometimes, when running bass through certain (vintage) amps.FUZZ_KING wrote:not neccessarily. i used basses together with guitar amps to great results many a time.noirengineer wrote: I bet a guitar sounds better through bass amp, than a bass
guitar through a traditional guitar amp..
depends on what you're after... i don't need very low end thump when playing bass,
so a (higher wattage) guitar amp is just fine for me.

And not that it mattered - I always used to run my Rick through my SuperSix... MAN, that thing could twist up your gut and make cakes in your shorts...

that's the #1 rule for stonerrock..plus the best Rolling Stones sound ever (sticky fingers) comes from ampegs 4x10 combo..the one like an svt in combo style..

I like playing though my bass amp (even though it is a crappy Ibanez 15 watt starter amp, lol) I like the warm meaty sound I can get from it, very Jazzmaster-like. Lots of fine control on the mids and lows.
I've heard that Stevie Ray Vaughan switched over to playing bass amps at a certain point because he could get so much sound out of his guitars that he would blow out his regular ones, lol. I wish I was that awesome

Re: Guitar through a bass amp?
well, we recorded some stuff last week, and i wish i had made my bass player use a guitar amp. he played through a mesa/boogie 400+ amp with a big cab and i didn't have a chance to monitor it correctly when tracking, i just set up some control1s and had a pair of (though good) headphones... now i'm constantly tweaking the ultra low rumble on the track... argh.øøøøøøø wrote: verily, many a recording situation has ended up with bass through a guitar amp because often it will sit better in a mix. yep. i knew it was too much low end, and i turned some of the lo freq down when he was taking a leak, but i think he turned them back up when i was taking a leak.øøøøøøø wrote:lemme guess, you had the cab on the floor and you let the bass player get 'his sound?'FUZZ_KING wrote:well, we recorded some stuff last week, and i wish i had made my bass player use a guitar amp. he played through a mesa/boogie 400+ amp with a big cab and i didn't have a chance to monitor it correctly when tracking, i just set up some control1s and had a pair of (though good) headphones... now i'm constantly tweaking the ultra low rumble on the track... argh.øøøøøøø wrote: verily, many a recording situation has ended up with bass through a guitar amp because often it will sit better in a mix. Re: Guitar through a bass amp?
no DI, as we only had 4 channels for the whole recording, haha. kind of "fixed it in the mix" by shelving off agood amount of ultra low rumble and accentuating the 200-300 Hz area. yet another lesson learned.
oh - and sorry to the original poster for the thread hijack.

Re: Guitar through a bass amp?
I plug into an Ampeg B25-B bass head and run that into a Marshall 4/12 and it's pure sex. Really clear clean and a real nice crunch. A tube screamer kicks it into a really nice overdrive. The head was cheap compared to all the guitar heads I've owned. The only Guitar head I would switch to would be an ElectricAmp. A Sunn Model T would be nice to drive more cabs.
Guitars through Bass Combos though can get messy. Good for blues though as said.
A guitar through an Ampeg SVT into an 8/10 is pure sex though. Nice clean and loves fuzz pedals and girls.
