A suck knob doesn't drive the power tubes either. It operates between the preamp and the poweramp, therefore you get a smaller signal reaching the poweramp, meaning no drive there. It's just another master volume control :/ basically if you already have a master volume knob, it's only useful for giving you finer control over the output volume.
One very common misconception is that the volume box can help get power tube saturation at lower volumes. This is totally false. The volume box, when in the effects loop, is placed BEFORE the power amplification circuit. Turning down the volume of the box is the same as turning down the Master on the drive channel. It's simply lowering the preamp signal, and we need A LOT of signal to drive the power tubes into saturation.

I think dinosaur was agreeing with Jay - no power tube overdrive with the volume box/"suck knob".

.. that's what attenuators do.

I liked to use mine with my hot rod deville on the clean chanel in my apartment. I don't want my Indian neighbors to pray to the six armed goddess to karmicaly bitch slap me.

Just finished the build on mine yesterday (pics coming), and it does exactly what it's supposed to do with my HR Deluxe - it makes the volume manageable. Which is a good thing when I'm playing at home...

Yay.  ;)
