The early 70's ones (no master volume) are pretty close to the blackface circuit. I'd be willing to bet that you couldn't tell the difference.

I've noticed that. The other guitarist in my band scored a 74 (one of the master volume ones) for $500.JazzBlaster wrote: I'm looking for another silverface twin and I gotta say prices are all over the place with these. One place will have a 71 for $700 another will have almost the same amp for $1700. Come July I'll start scouring local shops, I'm sure I'll come up with something.
Would a 120 be necessary? The smaller ones can be quite affordable. There's a JC50 on Marktplaats.nl for € 200 at the moment.Sauerkraut wrote: I think Roland JC120's are comparable, but they're probably expensive.
I got a cube 60 awhile back and I love it! it's nice and small (1x12) so if I go play with friends or the family jam band I don't have to lug a bunch of shit around. It easily keeps up with drums at the same time you can get a great tone that you can talk over. The tones of the amp simulators 10 being the real amp are about an 8. Some of them are better than others the blackface, tweed and Dyna amp being my favorites it also has the typical roland JC type chanel on it too. You can get them realy cheaply used, I paid $150us for mine used. I can't say enough good things about mine.Orang Goreng wrote:Would a 120 be necessary? The smaller ones can be quite affordable. Then again, it's not a tube amp, so I guess it's out.
I've never seen a master volume Twin for $500 around here(Oregon). EVER. The cheapest I've ever seen a Twin was $600, and it was a reissue. I looked for a long time for my '71 non-master, and I paid more than I wanted to ($850). Around here, they just aren't that cheap.øøøøøøø wrote: $500 is the right price for a master volume twin. If I were in the market for one, that's what I would look to spend on one. If I had a hard time finding one (unlikely) I could see spending maybe 10-20% more than that in an emergency, but for the most part... a master volume twin is a $500 amp.
You would also have to get a step-up transformer for the different voltage and pay import and value added taxes (totaling around 25% of the total cost of the object including shipping) which would raise the price far beyond the point where you've got a good deal.øøøøøøø wrote: If you can find a US seller willing to ship to Europe, that's what you should do. The dollar is so weak compared to the Euro right now, $600 US is € 380 or so . Even with the insane shipping, it would be fair.
Small correction; I think you can still find good silverface Twins for €800-900 over here. When I sold mine a few months ago that's what other people were asking.Orang Goreng wrote: Depends where you are though. If I look at Dutch ads, they average between € 1000-1500,( roughly $ 1500-2400), which makes them slightly cheaper-to-slightly-more-expensive than a '65 RI (about € 1300). Don't know what the situation is in Austria.
