Hmm. There seem to be a few different models. Here's another shot of the 3210 head.

The other model being discussed is the 3310 (head version):

And here's the same amp in combo form (model 5100):

Hmmm . . . seems I can't record with the mic with my current setup, I'll see if I can get a good drive signal out of the line out.

hey, don't knock the line out! i've managed to pretty much nail steve albini's sound by mixing in a bit of direct signal through the PA, while still having the majority of the sound coming out of the cab. i don't imagine it sounds very pleasant on its own though :D

I've had one of those Hughes and Kettner "red box" guitar DI's hanging about the house for a couple of years, but I've never used it It's got a cabinet emulation on it, but I'm not sure how good it is. I'm doing sound at a show tomorrow night, might give it a try if I have time :)

They do the job pretty well, especially if you want to eliminate bleed from the drums, etc.  I used to use one a lot and it sounded pretty good - I had a H&K combo and I thought my sound through the monitors with the built-in Red Box was better than standing in front of the amp.  It was a while ago and I never A/B-ed the tone with a good mic, so YMMV.  Give it a try!
