Re: Any love for Vox amps?
Yes, I really do like it. And I really appreciate the tip on it, by the way.
I like the compressor, too, but this thing is just cool. Perfect complement to the AC4C1, to make it more similar to the AC15C1- this also has vibrato, the 15 also has reverb.
I think it’s great, I have it set up for both tremolo and vibe. It typically it stays on the vibrato, but it’s a beautiful (slow) transition from one to the other.
I normally line up a lot of effects to use, but I’m only running a Range Lord into the compressor, into a reverb and then the Vibe on it. And it sounds delicious.
Mondo cool.

It's a boost booster, to boost your boost - it makes your tone much muchier.

Re: Any love for Vox amps?
I’m playing stereo through a Vox AC-15 with blue alnico’s and a Tech 21 Power Engine 60 and I’m really happy with it.
My TC Electronic Flashback X4 and Waza Dimension C sound so sweet through those amps. But what really put my sound over the top was when I added my EP booster after my Diamond compression pedal. Holy smokes.
Makes my Marr Jag sing.

Re: Any love for Vox amps?
The alnico blue makes a big difference. I’d get a Weber blue pup (or pt-10, I think it is) for the AC4, if I didn’t already have his Silver 10 in it.
That EP Booster really has a mojo. I’ve used it in a lot of different chains and amps, and it always sounds better with it. I keep it on the vintage settings and always place it dead last.
But, I was using a klone to boost/shape a Keeley Realizer signal (I still am on the big board), but I recently replaced one with the EP booster, and I think it sounds just as good, if not actually better, even tho it’s so far up in the chain. It‘ really warms up the tone. It’s just locked to the Realizer, so it’s only “there” when I engage that effect. Still, nice.
It’s on the smaller board, so the small footprint was the primary reason. But it does have a really good sound quality that it adds.
They aren’t that expensive, I may buy another one of them one day. I would love to try the Catalinbread model, booster or full Deluxe, maybe that’s the next one.

Re: Any love for Vox amps?
I've used many Pedals over the years... I got tired of all of them & quit using everything but a Tuner & what came with my Amps. Not a big problem for my Vox & Fenders as they all have Reverb & Trem. Both my Amps, Vox AC10C1 w/Weber & AC15CC1X with Celestion Alnico Blue Speakers, have Top Boost to dial in Dirt...
My Fender 65 PRRI, 65 DRRI & Twin lack Top Boost but are great Amps too.... (That's mainly why I got the TS808 Tube Screamer listed below)
It seems like all Guitars love those Amp!
Eventually I felt the need for a little more versatility. But, I didn't want to go overboard. Just wanted to keep it simple. After many different Set ups I decided to go with these. The Byrds 50th Anniv. Janglebox, TS808 Tube Screamer, Fender 64 Reverb Pedal, Boss Delay & Keeley 30MS Double Tracker... All these Pedals are a good balance for all my Amps & the Music I play...

Re: Any love for Vox amps?
hey, I just recently made a demo of AC30hw head and even though I've never been impressed with any Vox offering, this is pretty cool. I dig the switchable Master Volume circuit. White tolex on this particular one does not hurt at all too ) I liked it best with my '72 JM. here's the demo: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fz5obWy3Y7k

Re: Any love for Vox amps?
I like the sound of them. Bought one of the 1x12 AC4's but returned it because there was an unnaturally loud hum. I enjoy the emulated Vox sound on my Strymon Iridium, and I'll probably pick up an actual amp someday if I can get something decent in head form.

Re: Any love for Vox amps?
My first "proper" guitar amp was a second hand AC30 I bought in 1979. It sounded great when it worked: sadly it spent 80% of its time in the repair shop. Since then I've had another AC30, two AC15s and a pretty blue AC4C1. I love Vox amps.
Most recently I bought a VOX MV50 Clean - one of the ridiculous little Nutube heads. This thing is an absurdly loud 50w through a 4ohm cab and as it has loads of headroom it works great with pedals even thought there's no loop. I take it out with me as a spare in case my tube combo craps out (which it never has yet). Even through the combo's 8ohm 1x12" the MV50 is a loud 25w. The cleans are a little bit Fenderish. It's no Twin Reverb but tonally you could use it for the same stuff and it'd sound fine.
Yup. Love Vox.

Re: Any love for Vox amps?
Anyone have any strong opinions of the newish superbeetle? I've yet to play one or indeed even see one in the wild, but a 25w 1x10 "stack" setup like that seems great for playing at home, light recording, and stuff like that. It's just the right size.
This is an excellent rectangle

I would watch this in depth video where it is compared to the new AC30 S1. I think it holds it's own in some areas esp. for the price.

Re: Any love for Vox amps?
Sorry, just watched this demo and I have to say that both the amp and playing are killer in this. Also, you’re right, the JM sounds the best, but all of the guitar/pedal pairings are pretty darn good. I’ll have to check out the Atavists now.Kinx wrote: ↑Tue Mar 31, 2020 7:38 amhey, I just recently made a demo of AC30hw head and even though I've never been impressed with any Vox offering, this is pretty cool. Cool. Your amp is one of the follow ups to my AC30HH.Kinx wrote: ↑Tue Mar 31, 2020 7:38 amhey, I just recently made a demo of AC30hw head and even though I've never been impressed with any Vox offering, this is pretty cool. Sounds great!
I'd love to hear that thru a Vox Cab with 2X12" Celestion Alnico Blues....
