Got my jig-on today:

Scrap panel test joint:

Turned out alright. The scrap panel wasn't squared and the blades should have been raised a hair higher, and so the depth is a little off. But it's a nice tight fit that needed a few swift bops with the mallet to join together. It doesn't flip out or budge when picked up, either. I'm also going to find/make a filing device to clear out slivers or rough edges - i want the joints on my cab to be clean and snug!

According to my previous amp tech, the speaker contributes almost 1/2 the total weight of the amp.
That's a bit of an overstatement, but yeah, a D130-F is heavy as sin. I have two of them, and once got a great deal from Brad on two of those speakers. It's probably the heaviest thing I ever had shipped to me from the US...

But yeah, the sound IS worth it, isn't it?

I think you're the first person (other than myself) to mention having one of these in the nearly four-year history of this forum. We should start a club!
I think we'd be the only two members! To be honest I'd love to know how many of them Fender made. Twins are everywhere, but I've never seen another Vibrosonic Reverb. I was quite shocked when I plugged into a similar era Twin how different it sounded. Also surprising was how much high end the JBLs reproduce (right up into bad 'earsplitting' territory when coupled with 100W SF Fender amp!)

All this talk of 15" speakers - has anyone tried any of the very lightweight Neodynium magnet equipped 15" drivers? I think they're sold as Jensen 'NEO' or somesuch, and I believe Weber make something similar. If I do decide to go down the Super Reverb clone in head form+1x15" cab path, I'd like to consider the super-lightweight driver (provided the tone is there, naturally!)

Cheers.

picked up a couple lengths of 3/4" laminate pine planks from home depot yesterday. no pics, sorry - camera batteries died. >:(

didn't think i'd be able to cut for the cab so soon, so i didn't have my measurements worked out :squint:. i figure i'll keep the bassman head dimensions the same, but sort of 'stretch' the bottom down to accommodate the 15" speaker.

it's looking like my dimensions will be about 9.5" x 22" x 25"

:)

As you're doing this, you should keep asking yourself...
"If I were to do this againnnnn... how much would I charge a fellow OSG member/Canadian/Southern Ontario/GTA brother for something like this?!"

You know...
like...

not for any reason or anything...

I just may know a guy...

or something.

i'd want to make sure i successfully complete the first one, and sumbit it for OSG approval before i go around saying i can make cabs! lol ;D

does anyone have specs for the cut/angle around the faceplate? i know i'll measure and calculate it myself just because, but it'd be nice to have a vintage spec sheet to cross-reference with...

Re: Bassman 1x15 combo: Box Wood Cut to Length

Post by Stratelejazzuar » Fri May 21, 2010 5:21 pm

Narrowed the boards for cab depth. Cut two sides for cab height. Cut top and bottom for cab width.
Cab dimensions = 22" x 24.5" x 9.5"
Cut and angled the top shorter for control plate access, and then cut the side tops to match.

"What a pile of cab!"

Image

the remaining 2"+ strips were cut to 1" and will be used for the baffle and back panel strapping.

Image

then i set up the joint jig rig, called it an afternoon, and enjoyed a nice cold beer! :)

after supper consisted of opening a box o' 15" speaker. maybe i should get another to put in my princeton reverb? ???

I finished my 2x12 build not too long ago, I wish I could've had this thread to follow before, it may've turned out a bit prettier. :D
