Thought I'd update this thread since I modded my sIII 18watt build with a PPIMV (post phase inverter master volume) today.  It works friggen' awesome.  My only complaint is that 90% of the action is in the first 1/4 of the pot's turn but damn if it doesn't sound better then attenuators I've tried.  It's also got to be a bit easier on the amp tho that's probably debatable. Anyway, I've ordered a 1M reverse log pot to try that should make the quick volume jump with the regular audio pot go away.  So those of you thinking about one of these for gigging and practice could probably get by with one.  And the best thing is the parts are less then $5.  Attenuators start around $40 to build one from Rat shack parts and $100 for the cheapest commercial ones I've seen.
