The tube is arrived today!
Initially I've put it in the place of V2 and I've to say that in this position the distortion channel sounded a way  rounder and cooler.
BTW I don't like too much on the clean because, if my clean was a bit distorted before, now it's clean on the bass side but on the treeble side , where the JM  kicks hard, it goes distorted resulting very ear piercing. Cool anyway but not what I was expecting.
So I've put it in the place of V3 (the phase inverter) and ,as written in the HR Deluxe unofficial page, there's a good increase in the bass response that now I know it was what I was looking for.
Now it's late and I can't try it with effects and co. but I think it's a great improvement for only 8€. ;)

An AT7 is what most Fender amps use in thier phase inverter. For a preamp I would recomend an AY7 or a 5751 both are fine preamp tubes and sound smoother than your standard AX7. An AT7 is a great line driver and also used to drive reverb tanks.

Well, actually I use a 12AY7 as phase inverter..maybe on the next order I'll put a 12AT7 in the chart..

Keep in mind it's not wrong, I am just expounding on what is typical.

I know ;)!
I think I'll do it since I like "typical" sound and not "Hot Rod"  :)

I'm way off the pace here, but that sites FAQ was pretty helpful to a newbie like myself. I've constantly heard people mentioning "headroom" without a clue what they mean  :-[

It all makes sense now!

I've been messing with the 12AY7 in my Deluxe.  It sounds cool in the V2 socket!  You don't have to use the color coded tubes for these do you?  I just bought an EH labeled Russian 12AY7 and put it in.  I don't need to rebias, do I?  I was thinking of buying a 12AT7 for the phase inverter next.

No, the colored tubes are for the power section.

That's what I thought.  I figured the preamp tubes were interchangable

Common guitar tech wisdom states that you can change any pre-amp tube out with any need for a re-bias, but it's almost always a good idea when changing out your power tubes. Not sure if the color coded Groove Tubes are the exception to that or not...keep in mind that their business model is rebranding other companies tubes!

The purpose of the color based GT are for that very reason. As long as you use the same color you wont need to re bias.

The other day I've play about an hour with the 12AY7 in the V3 and I've to say that the most noticeable effect is ,along with a good increase on bass response , is a decrease in loudness, and that's not a bad  thing!! :)
