Almost everything about those old Silvertone amps is wrong. Rats nest wiring, masonite cabs, under spec'd transformers, wonky circuits and the list goes on but, and here's the thing, those amps are incredible! For some inconceivable reason, they work and they work hard.

I love them!
The one thing about them that was “right” was that they originally shipped with the highest quality tubes.
If you can find one that still has all its original tubes they will generally be rebadged Amperex or Mullards for the preamp tubes and rebadged RCA outputs

IIRC, they originally shipped with Jensens too which I don't think were top of the line (again, IIRC) but certainly weren't the bottom. I seem to remember Jensens being more revered today then they were then.øøøøøøø wrote: ↑Tue Nov 08, 2022 6:57 pmI love them!

Yep, I think you're right about that! On both counts... in the mid-century Jensen was not in the same class as Altec, JBL, etc. They were solid, reliable and plentiful.hulakatt wrote: ↑Wed Nov 09, 2022 5:23 amIIRC, they originally shipped with Jensens too which I don't think were top of the line (again, IIRC) but certainly weren't the bottom.
