Do you see many Burman amps in local shops up there (they were made in Newcastle in the 1970s/early 1980s)? They're fantastic (and fantastically heavy) amps too.Deckard wrote: Tbh what i don't know about Tone and good amps could fill a small series of books
I'll take your word for it that they are good in that case. Just everyone seems to be talking about them and its all just lost on me. My knowledge of what a guitar amp looks like doesn't stretch too far beyond a bit of Tolex and big wooden box![]()
Now it all makes sensezhivago wrote: I have played through many amps, vintage Marshalls, Fenders, Voxes....also a handful of boutique amps...so I have a pretty good benchmark as far as what a good guitar amp sounds like
all I have to say is that HH amps are very usable, robust, light (they are transistor) and dirt cheap......and they sound great...sparkly, huge, with tight bottom end and note-to-note seperation...and they overdrive like a Zvex Super Duper when cranked (they are Mosfet designs)
my Blackface '65 Fender stays at home and the HH comes with me to every gig....that pretty much says it all.
of course, if I wanted traditional tube breakup, I'd use the tube amp....but for all the gigs I play where I don't know what size room it'll be, or if I'll be mic'd or not, the HH head I have through my Marshall 4x12 handles anything thrown at it.
and the crowd loves the fact it glows in the dark!![]()
I can't say i have ever seen or heard of Burman amps. Tbh alot of the guitar stores up here are just franchise/chain stores. We've got a Guitar Guitar, a Dolphin Music, Sound Control... all very run of the mill, they very rarely have second hand stuff in. Its mostly new stock with a little dash of boutique amp and a few top end guitars.mjet wrote:Do you see many Burman amps in local shops up there (they were made in Newcastle in the 1970s/early 1980s)?
