Vox AC30H2 Tube Guitar Combo Amp?

Post by Don » Tue Mar 18, 2008 10:16 am

Anyone tried or heard this bad boy? :) I'm narrowing my new amp purchase to this one and a Fender 57 twin the vox has some more options but the Fender is supposedly the AMP of Amps?

Meh. There is no "amp of amps", IMHO. It entirely depends what you want to play. An AC30 and a Twin don't sound much like one another. What kind of sound are you after?

I think these amps look pretty cool and would love to have one.  I hope to try and acquire one by the end of the year.

I've owned an AC30, and sure, I liked it. I'm more of a JCM800-era Marshall man, really - I love the sound of Fender -> Marshall. I also love the sound of Fender -> HH PA amp. Which, I suppose, is why I have both in stereo  ;)

The AC30 is very, very big in both sound and weight. A few small things that pissed me off about mine: those chicken-head knobs are way too easy to knock. I was forever having to dial my sound in AGAIN after someone knocked it off. Also, I hate that the two channels aren't footswitchable. I also didn't like the way the amp sounded with my main dirtboxes (RAT and Big Muff). But YMMV - a lot of people love dirt through their AC30s.
