I love my Fender Tone DR amp. It really blends well with my pedals. I used to be a tube only guitarist but now have seen the light. Fender is really on the cutting edge of technology but they blend it well with the old school so it will appeal to guitarists.
Since the most commonly used Pedals are SS so they should mate well with SS Amps..

I haven't seen anyone in So Cal play one of these Amps.. I'm not sure they're breaking any sales records either..

Being a fan of & using using Tube Amps for many years I would still like to try one though..

I really want to try one. My main concern is using fuzz and dist. My JC-120 didn't sound right to me with those pedals. My twin reverb sounds beautiful with dirts stacked. The only problem is I rarely get to turn it up past 3.. :squint:

If you're thinking about picking up one of these amps, I'd encourage you to go somewhere you can A/B a Tonemaster with a tube version of the amp. When you do this, the differences are obvious and you can decide for yourself which one fits your personal paradigm better. YouTube videos, specs, opinions of others are all more or less meaningless until you can compare for yourself. The only exception to this is the weight- it's an indisputable fact that the Tonemasters are almost comically lighter than the tube versions of these amps. It almost feels like someone bolted the Twin to the floor in comparison.

I think Fender (and I really like Fender) should make an effort to manufacture these in North America.
I'm Canadian........I still want my gear made over here.

That's what I thought until I watched this recent comparison. Seems to me that they really tried to be fair, but the Tonemaster makes the '65 reissue sound amazing, and I don't even like Fender tube amp reissues all that much. I think the extra weight's worth it as long as the difference remains this big.

Wow, this is like that TMDR thread on TGP but in miniature... I always thought OSG was quieter and cooler. People gonna people no matter where you go.

Anyways, I’ve had my DR since November and I’m a big fan of the thing. Eminently usable in every context I’ve played it in so far (admittedly far less this year than I was expecting when I bought it...). Worth it for the DI and attenuator alone. I’m not too concerned about the minuscule sonic differences, to be honest it’s not something I care too much for, it just sounds great. Reacts well to all pedals so far, though as you’d expect everything gets tweaked subtly between amps.

I’m glad I picked this over a Helix or Kemper or something. Maybe to be fair it needs to compared against those too?

Sorry! You have a point. I always write dumb posts when I work too much.

Comparison videos are mostly useless. Still, Fender invites the comparison by naming the thing "deluxe reverb" when it obviously don´t sound that much alike, and I was genuinely surprised by how noticeable the difference was from a video.

Agreed, it’s only fair people put them side by side. I would presume people do the same with Kemper DR presets, or any other amp model against their original amp. The TPS episode was the first time I actually noticed a difference in any of the AB comparisons on YouTube, I’d guess that’s more to do with Dan and Mick being such valve geeks that they know how to capture an amp sound as authentically as possible. They’ve got the ears and the gear to do it, unlike many of us.

I appreciated TPS comparison. It doesn’t change how I feel about my Tomemaster DR. It’s just a great amp. It’s close enough to a DR that I’m happy and does everything else I want it to do. I’m getting some of the best tones (for me) that I’ve ever gotten and my neighbors don’t want to kill me.

If my living situation changes and I can get louder amps I might change. But that seems a long way off.

I got a Tone Master Deluxe Reverb in blonde today. Played it for a couple of hours so and so far I'm very impressed.

I watched the TPS comparison too and while the Tone Master and tube Deluxes sounded different, I didn't think one was hugely 'better' sounding than the other, both sounded great to me and the extra features of the Tone Master appeal to me a lot. Looking forward to trying the DI out to record with soon too.

These amps sound fantastic but I have to wonder. How well are they going to hold their value? Especially when Fender inevitably releases the Tonemaster V2?

My guess would be no, but who knows. The secondary market is all over the place right now.

For sure I don’t see this holding value at all. I wouldn’t buy one of these if that’s what you want.

Had it for a couple of weeks now, still very happy with it. Takes pedals really well which was my only concern really. Not too bothered about residual values as while I swop and change guitars a lot, amps generally stick around forever with me.

Same. Not overly concerned with sales value. I plan on keeping it awhile.
