Musicman hd130 212 NAD?

Post by Severed Hand » Fri May 01, 2020 8:01 am

I have a chance to buy a musicman hd130 212 for $275 plus a 45 minute drive. From the pictures I’ve seen it’s in pretty good condition my only apprehension is it’s the version with the phase inverter tube which I heard can cause the power transformer to melt.

I already own a musicman hd130 210 which might pair nice if I run a stereo rig or just need a backup. My 210 is currently being repaired ironically.

Think I should grab it or pass it?

One of my bandmates has an HD130 head. He's had it for at least 20 years with no problem.
I'd probably get an old USA tube for the phase inverter just to make sure.

Probably worth grabbing to flip, otherwise it's just "more of the same" tonally. I'd buy > flip > get something that's a different flavor. Like a similar era AMPEG!

Yeah I bought it. It was missing earth on the plug so I gave it to my tech to go over. I might keep it just as a back up for gigging if that ever happens again maybe try two amps for stereo reverb out of the RV6.

What I really want is a fender quad!

But none have shown up that aren’t torn apart.
