My old Bassman 2x12, which I've now sold, was incredibly bass-heavy... And in a "thin" way, not in a huge thick guitar signal way. Tonally awkward more than anything. BUT, an open back Fender combo amp just works!

That really looks awesome! Fender combo amps warm my heart... Like a reminder that everything (tone wise) isn't going to be okay. ;D

that turned out great! it looks stock, but becomes a mystery on second glance. kind of looks like a Vibrolux Reverb at first glance. that's a great application of the chassis!

congrats, Andy!

Andy! That looks so good! Love the speaker choice as well 8)
Glad it worked out and that you're happy with it. Derrick does great work and agreed - he's a pleasure to work with.
Enjoy!

Wow, that turned out great, and it's incredible that it barely weighs any more. That's pine for you!

Thanks everyone! I am totally pleased. The amp itself needs a little tune up but is 80% fine. Just the reverb is a little weak and the tremolo clicks.

Thanks! It has a better balanced sound now. The closed back 2x12 I used with it before was terribly bassy. You couldn’t dial it out of the signal! Plus I think the Jensen speaker is more up my alley (tonally) than the old 2x12 Oxfords. I always feel better playing an open back combo. It feels like the sound moves about the room better and isn’t an 800hz laser beam like a closed back cab can be.

My first amp was a Peavey Classic 50/212. I upgraded the speakers from the stock Blue Marvels to a pair of Eminence Texas Heats. For some reason after that amp, and several others I've played, I've always felt that I prefer a single speaker combo over dual speaker combos. I don't know why, but 2 speakers in a combo always sounds lackluster to me.

Wow, that looks fantastic. You're right about the builder getting the subtle details correct, and the overall effect it has. If I didn't know better, I'd think it was just a really nice specimen of an old amp.
This is an excellent rectangle
