Vintage UNIVOX U45-B amplifier for use with Jazzmaster
I’m looking at either this model or the VOX AC10C1 for my first tube amp.

I own an univox U-45b. They are killer amps for the money. I think I paid around $200 or so. It breaks up well and at a reasonable volume and the trem is great! It’s a dark sounding amp. Which I think compliments a Fender offset nicely.

I can’t test the amp out before buying but it looks like the lowest price I can get him to go down to would be ~400 including tax and shipping.
For this price range, is there other amps which you guys recommend I check out aside from the vox AC10C1 or AC4
I’ve heard the blues jr sounds dark and muddy with a jazzmaster.
I am also interested in the 15w Monoprice model but it looks like they’re currently out of stock.

At $400 the Univox sort of loses it appeal. It's a great amp but I don't know if I would spend $400 on it.

Re: Vintage UNIVOX U45-B amplifier for use with Jazzmaster
One thing to consider. I paid $200 but also put in another $125 to get the amp re capped, new 3 prong cord, and everything gone over. One good thing is these amps are super simple so servicing them should not be very expensive.
So If that has been done $350 would be pretty good deal. Mine was in relatively good condition too. No major rips or tears just some good old fashion honest wear.
I think these still fly under the radar with most folks and they don't have the name brad recognition as say a Vox or Fender. They also sometimes are labeled Lafayette so be sure to look for those as well. If you look long enough I'm sure you can find a good deal.

i've owned about 5 of these and regret selling every one of them off.
A really nice one of these with functioning trem is leaps and bounds better sounding than that ac10 would be

Re: Vintage UNIVOX U45-B amplifier for use with Jazzmaster
i found one a few years back, i think it's quite good with a JM. a nice grind to it, and a pretty full, round clean tone at low volumes. i play in four or five-piece groups, and it's not quite loud enough for clean tones for that, but it's great in a small room or for recording at home. or playing live in a trio.
i was patient and eventually found this one for $250, all fixed up and cosmetically excellent, too.
i don't know the AC10, i use an AC15 quite a lot and it's fantastic in the groups i mentioned. big step up, tho.

I'm a VOX guy at heart so I'm always going to say vox on this stuff. Probably an AC15 is a better investment than an AC10 because it can actually keep up with a band.

Don’t know about the univox but the ac10 is a great little amp. Sounds great with a jm and is a lot kore portable than an ac15
It’s pretty loud. I play in a 5 piece band and with the gain on just breaking up, I never have the volume over 3 to keep up with our drummer. Admittedly he’s not animal from the muppets and our practice space is small but I gigged it in a large tent last summer and it was plenty loud enough!

We definitely don't play the same type of music! All good though. For me I'm cranking my ac30 to about 5-6 pretty much all the time. I have gotten good at making sure I use earplugs at least.Ceepers wrote: ↑Sat Jul 18, 2020 1:18 amDon’t know about the univox but the ac10 is a great little amp.
