So we lost a page and a couple posts. I don't remember exactly what was said by everyone (was about to respond tonight :-/ ). It seems that everyone is in concurrence that the 12" speaker isn't necessary, but I guess my question is if it sound bad enough to pursue a 10" speaker. The Fender '65 PRRI Tweed FSR is the specific model I'm interested in mostly because I like the aesthetics of the tweed better than the standard Fender black tolex/gray grille, and this model ONLY comes with a 12" speaker. That's not my modification, that's from Fender.

I did really enjoy the sound of the standard '65 PRRI I played the other day, but if I get this one for the cosmetics, then it'll have a 12" speaker. I have no problem trying out new speakers if I don't like the speaker it comes with, but I'm wondering if I should look into a new baffle for a 10", or is the difference between the 10" and the 12" close enough to not make that big of an issue?
I didn't read all 6 pages, but I just recently acquired one of these exact amps - the 65 PRRI tweed with the 12" speaker. The only difference with mine is the previous owner swapped out the C-Rex with a Weber 12F150. I have to say, this amp with the Weber speaker is FAN-TASTIC! It's got plenty of headroom and volume. It's nice for home use and if I want to gig with it there's MORE than enough juice there to do so.

I have never liked the tone of the standard PRRI - they always sounded kinda boxy to me. With this speaker it's a totally different ball game. This is the first PRRI I've ever plugged into that I actually liked.

I'm really enjoying the standard PRRI, but I would still love to try the tweed with the 12" speaker.

I'm sure the Weber 12F150 12" sounds great in the Princeton..

Although to say to say the stock 65 PRRI sounds Boxey & has bad Tone is purely one persons subjective opinion.. I'm sure there are many thousands who would completely disagree. Including me...

Same here. It's been an absolute joy to play so far. I'm loving it more every time I play it.
