So, I'm interested in the Orange TH100. Unfortunately, there's no shop around who has one of those in stock. I like a simple amp, but will I not miss bass and treble controls in the dirt channel? What's up with that shape control?

It's a weird knob, but it works ok.

The way Orange describes it is:
Set to zero you're supposed to get: Treble 0 / Mid 10 / Bass 0
Set to max you're supposed to get get Treble 10 / Mid 0 / Bass 10

As you turn the knob you're supposed to decrease the mids and increase treble and bass. In practice I feel like it's actually just really dark and bassy when set to zero and super bright and hissy when set all the way to max. IME there's a sweet spot from about 10 o'clock to 1 o'clock where you get usable sounds, and the rest is bleh.

For the TH30, which I have, the shape knob is only on the OD channel. You get a two band EQ on the clean channel for treble and bass settings. The TH100 may be different, I'm not sure.

I normally use a fair amount of gain, and have never struggled to get the right sound out of mine, but YMMV. Some people hate it. I have an MXR EQ pedal, but have never felt like I needed it on this amp. It's voiced well for what I like to play.

I also have a TH30 and agree with all that SAVEStheDAY said. It works fine for me, if you need to fine tune the EQ more you could throw an EQ pedal into the effects loop.
