Fender Amp Deathmatches - Who wins in a head to head?
I'd like to pick your brains for a minute.. who wins in your opinions?
these are for mostly equal year/speaker setup/style vintage matchups
(i.e. silverface vs silverfaces / blackfaces vs blackfaces / etc.)
1. Princeton Reverb vs. Deluxe Reverb vs. Vibroverb
2. Vibrolux Reverb vs. Twin Reverb
3. Super Reverb 4x10 vs. Tweed Bandmaster 4x10
4. Who wins overall? Best reverb/trem? best overall tone/features?

It's all too subjective. I do know what my choices are....
1.Deluxe Reverb
2. Never played a Vibrolux, but I do love my Twin.
3.Super Reverb
4. Gotta be the Super Reverb for me.

You also didn't take in to account eras and styles...Blackface? Silverface? Reissue?

Not sure if this is such a good idea...for instance, I own a Vibrolux Reverb and use to own a Pro Reverb and briefly a Twin Reverb. Honestly, I love my vibrolux reverb but I like cranking it into break up. The Twin just gets really loud and clean which isn't necessarily my thing. On the other hand, I'm sure playing an amp on the verge would drive some people crazy who wanted headroom so a Twin makes sense for those people. I don't think you can compare the two any more than you could compare a butter knife and a steak knife - they just do different things.

Well my Fender amp is sure to win a competition ... the "power" one.
Supertwin, 1975 or 1976 ... 2x12", 180W.
I bought it a long time ago from a friend.
Problem is I'll never hear its "crunch" tone ... as with this amp, the "you are deaf" setting comes way way way before the "I start to crunch" setting.
Oh well, that's what Overdrive pedals are made for ...

Every Twin Reverb should come with a discount coupon for chiropractors and hearing aids.Haddock wrote: Well my Fender amp is sure to win a competition ... the "power" one.

Twins are 85-135 watss with 2-12's LOUD and clean
Supers are 40-45 watts with 4-10's. I think there was a 70 watt model in the 70's....Not sure, though. Pretty damn loud, but will actually break up at some point.

Re: Fender Amp Deathmatches - Who wins in a head to head?
I love twins and supers! every Super I've ever played just drips with reverb. I love a twin for playing out I had a great silverface for years, can't decide if I want another. I been beating the bushes looking for gear as of late like I used to. Most pawn shops sell at Ebay prices anymore tho so it's hardly worth it.
I may take a trip up to Fly by Nite tomorow, looks like I may be playing out again soon.

It's not about the gear! It's about you, your hands, your imagination, your feelings.

Re: Fender Amp Deathmatches - Who wins in a head to head?
ok, I've only really had proper experience w/ the deluxe vs twin vs supers..
As far as tone/sound wise ---> my order is this: Super/Deluxe/Twin
if I had to do it again, due to the practicality of having a smaller less heavy
and cumbersome amp, it'd go like this: ---> Deluxe/Super/Twin.
I have had my eye on the princeton reverbs and vibrolux's though.
just need to demo em out.. i'm also a big fan of the champs and tweed blues jr.
but those aren't really equipped w/ the features i'm looking for.. i.e.
clean tones w/ reverb and vibrato channels.

Well said.øøøøøøø wrote: I like Fender amps. They all have their niche, which is why they were all very popular. If I was playing a large country gig with little sound reinforcement, I would go for the Twin Reverb. If I was playing a blues, rock, or jazz gig and had to carry my amp myself up several flights of stairs and through three subway transfers and a 10 block hike, I'd take the Deluxe Reverb.
It's all a question of application. :)

Yeah, just like Nolan and Ben said too, very subjective.
Personally I love the VR - loud enough but not too loud, two speakers, still reasonably portable. I think it's right for most situations I might get involved in, but not for everyone.

twin reverbs win for the pure volume and power they have.
