Circle Sound, surprisingly, was totally separate from Simms-Watts or FAL. It was a small Kent (UK) company that existed only for a few years in the early 70s who went bankrupt after a weird South Africa/Swiss fraud incident. Their cabs were frame-fronted like the sleeve to that head. I'm guessing the two were just paired up at random by someone.

I actually bought that head and cab from someone at a car boot sale for £30 for the pair and used it for a couple of years then moved it all on as the gear rotation changed. They weren't old enough to have owned it long and knew nothing about it.

I've been googling and it definitely looks like your cab is a 70s Simms-Watts. There's a few examples dotted about and they all seem to match pretty well

I highly doubt it's a Peavey. I've had in excess of 30-ish Peavey cabs that have dated from 71-95 and none have ever looked like that. Not even remotely

Happy to be proved wrong, as always, but I very much doubt it. The input is in the wrong place, and the wrong shape. Peavey didn't use piping. Wrong handles. Wrong corner caps. Would have had Eminence, not Fane too.

laney GS412P looks similar–baffle isn't quite right though, and i'm not seeing any other straight faced 4x12s from them that aren't very recent.

same with peavey– they made a few slant cabs with piping in the 80s/90s, but most of their straight cabs seem to have had those distinctive white stripes along the sides of the grille, a few others have diamond grilles, and any even smaller percentage look like Sean's cab sans-piping.

i mean, i think a bunch of companies did cabs similar to this back then– what's most likely to still be kicking around scotland 30-40 years later? unfortunately i don't think anyone was thinking about people being able to id gear like this much past whatever warranty they may have had (and there certainly aren't any communities devoted to doing that work... unless there's an OSG of 80s cabs somewhere out there)–like 60s japanese guitars, you can really only go so far into identifying what some of this stuff is unless it's super distinctive and kind of just have to live with an estimate.

nope. i did also notice something a bit different with this one. everything else is the same (sealed back, corners, jack type, front loading speakers, feet, frame, weight) the grille cloth is the same type as my other cab BUT it's got silver in it. i'll get it down to the practice space once i've repaired it but for now, have a pic

i still need to open it up. dude says it's broken. in some way. i'll figure it out. i'll let ya all know what i find. also. £10 well spent

Looks like silver piping too. Should be interesting to find out what it's loaded with

well, we got good news and bad news.

good news: we got fane pop speakers. basically the same kind from the unknown 4x12 i got for £30.... so somehow i've managed to get 6 fane pops and 2 fane crescendos in the last 18 months.

bad news: both are meant to be rated at 8ohms. one is hovering around the 7.2 mark, which is normal, the other is all the way down at 1.4. i ran the 9v battery test and there wasn't much movement in the coil or diaphram. anyway. who wants to see the spoils?

the one with the torn sticker is the 1.4ohm one.

i'm wondering if i should send these off to someone who can get them working again. the downside is, i want both speakers wired for 8ohms because my other cab is 8ohms and i wanna run my bassman at 4ohms

roost? sovtek?
Def not a Sovtek cab based on any I've seen or owned. The only cab I've seen or owned like this was an 80's HiWatt but it had the additional pipping that this one lacks.
