jcm800 cutting out... trying to find info. help!

Post by Ladykiller » Wed May 21, 2008 7:17 am

I recently acquired a used jcm800 4212 (the 2x12 50W one with dual-channel & master vol.) from someone off of Craigslist. I had it in my home for about a month, just to get used to it, and a little afraid to bring it into my band's shared practice space. I played it for at least 45 mins or so just about every day... well, last night I bring it to the space for the first time, and halfway through practice the volume & tone just start fading out in a gradual wave. They would come back periodically but as soon as I'd start playing again, they would fade right back out.

I seem to recall hearing about problems with jcm800s? 900s? cutting/crapping out, but I didn't have much luck in my search for info. I was wondering if anyone here might have any thoughts?

Sounds like you need to take it to a tech.....it's most likely a tube thing.  I have always heard that the 800s are pretty tough so hopefully the transformers are ok.

Good luck!

Ok cool, glad to hear it's probably tubes. I just thought I remembered hearing that there was some inherent, unfixable, and otherwise dastardly problem with these that was going to leave me fucked :)

Check your tubes, make sure they are seated well. Sometimes when you transport an amp you can Jar them lose especialy on a head. May save you a trip to the tech.
It's not about the gear! It's about you, your hands, your imagination, your feelings.
