Fender Champion 600 still worth it?

Post by postqualia_1 » Tue Apr 18, 2023 9:10 am

I've seen a couple of Fender Champion 600's for around $250. Been wanting a small tube amp for at home use. Any opinions about whether you think this amp is worth it at this price? I know they were pretty cheap originally. Was planning on just using it stock for now.

Maybe not worth 250 but they are cool. I've had one for a long time. I think they were like 150 bucks new. Prices are nuts for everything these days though...

Did you mod yours or keep it stock?

I modded mine to get rid of the negative feed back or whatever that simple mod is to get more gain, it sounded like an old Champ 5f1 after that. I did something wrong though because after a while it stopped working....then it was completely rebuilt to point to point and it works again, but there is a big hum with it....

Stock they sound pretty good too.

Thanks. Just trying to figure out if it's worth getting one and leaving it stock. Wish the prices on them hadn't shot up so much.

I've had one stock since new, sounded great until it died and blew a resistor. I haven't quite got round to repairing it but I should really.

Mic'ing it up from behind sounded awesome for recording.

Ive casually been looking for a broken one to gut and put a P2P circuit in for a while. But I also don't really have the time for a project right now.
Silly Rabbit, don't you know scooped mids are for kids?

I ended up finding one for $225 with some mods done to it--grill cloth, speaker, tubes, and some basic circuit mods. The price seemed reasonable with the mods. Hopefully it sounds good. I'll see when it shows up.

Whelp, the one I got was DOA, so I had to send it back. Bummer. I guess I'll keep my eyes open for a decent deal on another one. It's not super necessary--I like my JC 120, but I thought it might be fun to have something small and simple for some tube tones for bedroom jams.

I had one, it was OK. I also had one of the Gibson GA-5 Les Paul 5 watt amps, it was a much better amp and sell for below what they're worth, esp seeing as how they're all handwired by Mojotone for Gibson. Mojotone also sells a kit version of the GA-5.
