NAD: 2006 MatAmp Minimat Mk1.5

Post by JSett » Mon Jun 12, 2023 10:59 pm

This arrived yesterday. I haven't had a chance to fire it up yet (I need to dig out a suitable cab) but I have opened it up for a look.

In all it's resplendent neon orange goodness...

Image

It's pretty well spec'd out for such a small thing. DI out, built-in attenuator, switchable boost...

Image

One 12AX7 and 1x 6V6GT...

Image

Delightful p2p wiring inside :? ...

Image

The boost appears to be some kind of op-amp boost/drive circuit which is interesting...

Hopefully I'll get to play it later today and see how it sounds. The internetz seems to put out the viewpoint that these sound like mini versions of the old OR amps which would be lovely as I do miss the brutal grind of my old OR120

I will report back once fired up and tested.
Silly Rabbit, don't you know scooped mids are for kids?

I always really like the look of them, I toyed with buying one before I jumped in the self-build train back in 2006.

How much are they going for nowadays? Could be a nice addition for a studio amp.

Tommy.

I paid £300 plus £20 shipping which I thought was pretty reasonable.

Here's a very hot and sweaty demo taken with a phone

It's loud as balls for its wattage, no surprise.

Would Dr Balls consider a special one-off cab collaboration with Big Willy?

I didn't understand this either. I'm guessing the word 'cab' wasn't supposed to be in there.

Who'd want a cab as ugly as the head?!? :D

I've always wanted one of these but they rarely show up in the USA, and when they do it's either bad timing or it's $1000.
