Yeah, I almost always keep those. It definitely sounds the same though (or at least indiscernibly).OffYourFace wrote: ↑Thu Aug 17, 2023 2:51 pmi skimmed, but do you still have the original OT? IMO the thing that makes an amp sound 'special' is the PT but people care about the OT when it comes to value.
Here in the USA it'd probably be worth $800 if working 100%

Re: Should I sell my Bassman, and what are they even worth??
so as someone who's got a bassman, a champ and a twin (along with other amps) i've got to say, the one i'd have the hardest time selling would be the bassman. not just because it's the amp i've owned the longest but because there's not much that sounds like a bassman imho. but there's also no doubt that if any amp has had strangers in bars saying to me "you shouldn't be taking that amp out on the road..... i know i'll buy it off of you" it's my bassman..... and that's for an SF bassman that's been modded, a BF bassman is worth way more.
can i offer a low tech solution if you use your bassman for recording? caline americana. into my champ 12, it can do an impression of my bassman. it's kinda like dana carvey's impression of george bush senior. you can tell it's a bit exaggerated but it's still close.

Re: Should I sell my Bassman, and what are they even worth??
I'll say keep. Those old Bassman heads really are something special and for every one I owned, I sold and regretted it and ended up with another. At this point, I've ended up with 2 '66's
As to reliability, I've always found those old Fenders to be some of the most reliable amps I've ever owned or played, esp if you keep them in solid condition. They were incredibly overbuilt for the road and for the long haul and usually just need some fresh caps and tubes to keep thumping along happily for decades at a time.

Re: Should I sell my Bassman, and what are they even worth??
i have too many amps, but my '66 Bassman head ain't one of them.
if space is the problem, move the cabinet along. out of the dozens of gear items, i have absolutely no difficulty in shuffling either of my Bassman heads around the studio.
even though it's not in regular rotation right now, my '66 head is my favorite solution as a backup amp for gigs. lately i've been gigging either a blonde Twin, or a smaller PR II with a 12" speaker. on important gigs i actually stash the Bassman head in my trunk as a back up - if my combo amp circuit fails somehow, i can plop the head on top, plug in the speaker and be back in business.
for such a great amp, the Bassman head has a small footprint and isn't stupid heavy in itself.
i have to admit it's been *years* since i plugged it into the 2x12 Fender cab. that cab is near the top of my list of things to offer up when i need more room in my studio.

Im hesitant to move the cab on its own as they are better/more desirable as a set. I guess I could move it into storage with the other big stuff.
I've got it online for sale at what I consider a reasonable but speculative price but no nibbles yet - which I'm kinda glad for as I'm still undecided.

Re: Should I sell my Bassman, and what are they even worth??
man I am in this boat "If i sell this stuff now will I ever be able to get it again at the price I got this one at?" most of the time the answer is NO and if the amp is a really good one, which i believe that one is, I would be extremely hesitant. I sold one of my bandmasters a while back and still regret it even though I hadn't used it in years (7 to be exact). Now I have 4 amps I cycle through weekly as a precaution to make sure they are all working as they should be. I play more for the maintenance and upkeep of the amps than to play lately. It's funny and sad.
I used to be cool, now I just complain about prices.

Does the recent reveal that Victory is owned by Anderton's affect this in any way?

I've made no secret of my absolute hatred for Lee Anderton. The guy is a shark and an asshole. Inherited the company off his dad and walks around like he's the greatest thing since sliced bread. Waaayyy too big an ego.Dr Tony Balls wrote: ↑Wed Aug 30, 2023 5:35 amDoes the recent reveal that Victory is owned by Anderton's affect this in any way?
I tattoo someone who works in the repairs centre for Andertons and he told me about this Victory thing a while back. He also hates Lee Anderton - happily admits he's a horrible person. But apparently he's paid well and barely has to deal with the human turd.
It doesn't fill me with joy but I also didn't directly give that cunt any money as I bought mine used. And I've debadged it It does put my back up a little & I've yet to decide if it's enough to chop it again and find another alternative. Annoyingly it's the closest I've found to my Bassman short of getting someone (like yourself) to build a modern replica of my old one. I will PM you anyway.

Re: Should I sell my Bassman, and what are they even worth??
Would it be worse to know that Chappers founded it? Not sure if he’s still involved. 9 lads from Guildford chipped in to help start their friend’s company. Not an awful story. I wonder if the Conford Amps guy is co-owner as well. I always thought it was his design work.
I think it’s a great brand and in 2012 or so no one else made lunchbox heads. And they sound pretty damn good. Great for touring bands taking flights to Ireland/Russia etc.

Did he? That's way worse. I hate that cunt more than Lee.
Ergh, this is gross
Martin Kidd, one of the Cornford dudes, is part owner which is good. I'd be interested to know the others as I'm sure they're likely wealthy Tory pricks if they're from Guildford.
It's a great sounding amp, and inside looks well-built. Plus it's made in the UK by hand.
Decisions decisions

Re: Should I sell my Bassman, and what are they even worth??
I might end up selling my 6G6-B clone - but only if someone takes my 4x12 cab (supersonic 100) with it - I'm happy with my smaller setup and my long serving Supersonic 60 excels at sounding like a Bassman - but it somehow takes my pedals better...and that effects loop is nice with the Space Echo - or as a boost.
Man, you even got the matching cab. I'd say keep it! Also because before long you'll miss it... and will try to replace it with something similar (or at least I would).

Same. Utterly insane but I bet it's fun. Put it on top of an 810 and blow some minds
