New Cab Day - Avatar 2x12

Post by Jonesie » Sat Oct 21, 2023 8:41 am

I've had one more head than I've had cabs for a little bit now. I came across this one on facebook marketplace for a silly deal, $200.00. It's an Avatar Traditional 2x12 with a Celestion Vintage 30 and a Greenback. Plugged my Marshall Origin 20 into it and goddamn. That is a LOUD rig now. Perfect crunch though. Sounds absolutely killer with my Duo Jet.

Wow. Great deal.
I had one years ago with my bandmaster head and it sounded great. Only got rid of it when I found an original (albeit bassman) matching cab.
The avatar cabs are total quality

Nice, Id like them more if they were finger jointed though.

Nice! I have one of their oversize 2/12s that I love. I think it’s a similar design to the orange cabs. Sounds huge!

After playing with it for a few days it's definitely a bit more "full range" than the Egnater 1x12 (with a Celestion 70th anniversary) I was using. Much less directional too. But my god, the bass response. I had to turn the bass on my Marshall down to 2.5.

I had one of these cabs with the open back that I loaded with vintage EV SRO ceramic speakers and the bass was just so intense and it may as well have been nailed to the floor it was so heavy all together! Great build quality and Dave at Avatar is a pleasure to speak with.
