That poor thing. Has lots of potential though.
It does. Lots of sanding between where it is now and that potential though. Lots of sanding.

Agree. That's DR504 money and well past the T20/10 and other, smaller modern Hiwatts. Also, in general and IMHE, I don't find 20 watt amps much quiter than 50 watt amps but I find them to sound much smaller and thinner.

Yeah, they're not even disclosing any info regarding transformers/ components. Says handmade in the UK but....

Maybe a 50 watt DR504, might be a better option. Im just a bedroom player but i want massive cleans.

I used to have a ceriatone hiwatt clone but looking back it was a big disappointment. Hissy as hell.

The 504 and 103 are supposed to have the best MV in the business as well. I don't know if they're "bedroom whisper" good but still.

I’ve been casually eyeing the Reeves Custom 12
They’re affordable-ish on the used market.

The combo cabinets are pine, and there are some other not very Hiwatt things about them, but the combo is 30 pounds according to the specs. I’ve lifted a few real deal Hiwatt combos (or tried to), and that’s one area where I’m happy to compromise.

After watching the speaker cab “where does the tone come from” video I’m pretty convinced that materials mean fuckall, at least for the amp sounds I like.

I’ve been wanting one of those Reeves forever now. I almost bought the Custom 6 many times when they still made them. That 12 would see a lot of use at my place. They seem like a really great company too. I sent an email asking about the reverb unit before and had the owner himself reply. They had already quit making those though. I’d love to have one.

Gut shots. It'll leave me a nice cab and chassis if/when it dies.

Man, all of this Hiwatt talk makes me really want a DR504 again. Old ones are crazy expensive right now. I think my best bet is to buy a new set of Heyboer 50w transformers and rebuild my Sound City "DR103" into a DR504. As it stands now, it's way too loud (but makes a great bass amp!)

We just made a one of a kind amp that really sounds very reminiscent of a DR504. It kinda blew my mind.
