seen one of these for sale at the local GC today.. I'm leaning toward the Traynor currently but I've always wondered about these amps

any opinions on them? I know they're solid state so I take it (along with the name) that they're quite clean, how do they sound with distortion/fuzz pedals? comparable to something like a Twin???

build quality?

yr right, its clean! I guess they are comparable to twins. Just to the point that they have alot of headroom. I never played any effects through one so I cannot comment there. One of the best solid-state amps in production. But for around a thousand bucks, it mighy be a little too much.

cool, well this particular one is $650 (used) and I think I could get that down a bit too.. they're going even cheaper on ebay

thats a great price for fine amp. I just love tubes so much it would be hard for me to get one. but they are great amps.

yeah that's the only thing holding me back.. I might be able to get the Traynor for less than half of that and could find a Bassman or Bandmaster Reverb for less too which are all killer amps so it'd definitely a hard group to beat out. I guess what I'm wondering is, is there something extra special about these amps that would make for a tough decision?

the chorus. bloody good chorus. but i would rather go for a bassman or bandmaster-reverb. chorus and headroom dont make me want to buy an amp. you could get a silverfaace twin-reverb for the same amount to get headroom.

My opinion:

They sound sweet. If your in good with the salesman he should let you take it home to try it out for a week (with a deposit) and see if it's for you. I have never done it but I had a roommate that used to bring home a new amp once a month to try out just cause he new the guy and had enough for the deposit. They are great amps. It's not like the "Fender Sound" but a good clean sound.

they sound fucking great if you ask me. if i didn´t know they were solid state i would never guess they were. they work great with all effects i´ve tried.

True, you might be able to snag a twin for around that muh money. Although, my SF twin breaks up much sooner than my dads blackface RI. We're examining....

you should really just try every amp that you are thinking about. There is a huge difference between a bandmaster-reverb/bassman and the roland.

yeah I know.. I'd definitely check out what's available here before buying, the Roland especially. Some of the other ones like the Bassman and BMR I'd have to take a chance on unless one became available locally. I'm not so worried about those as I've owned and played so many varying Fender amps that I think I have a good feel for what they offer

thanks.. I see that going by ebay, if I went for it I'd see what I could do on the price and decide from there

Robert Smith used one for the early Cure stuff with a jazzmaster. they sound great with any fx
