boy do I feel foolish!

Post by rabidhamster » Tue Feb 20, 2007 9:48 pm

So, you may have read my post about how my valve junior mysteriously stopped working.  Well, i was in no mood to mess with it, and came on and complained about how it just stopped working.  Just a few minutes ago, I went over to check it out, thinking, surely the problem isnt big!  whats the deal?!  Its plugged in, its....

Well, the deal was I had turned off the power to the power strip it was plugged into. :-[

I've done this before, but by switching off the wall switch that controlled the outlet I was plugged into and not knowing it.  Plugged amp in...Nothing.  Checked all cords, plugs, knobs, switches, etc before realizing it was a switched outlet.  Duh. Makes you feel like a genius.  :D

reminds me of one show i played in paradiso, amsterdam, before karate and pere ubu, and i
just couldn't hear my instrument, gesturing wildly at the sound man, him gesturing back, when
i remembered after two minutes or so i had turned down the volume after the sound check. that
was in front of 600 people or such. embarrassing. but probably noone noticed except for him
and me, cause i was just plucking the bass in a guitar outfit. still... sometimes i still feel like
a complete dork about it.

That also reminds me of a show I played.  At most gigs, I run the sound from the stage..(we're small time).  One time, we played about half a set before I realized I hadn't turned the slider up for the mains!  We were playing through the monitors and subs...  Probably sounded great in the audience.. ???

Yeah, I once believed that one of my more expensive effects pedals was broken just moments before a show, but in reality I simply reversed the order of the cables. I remember cursing up a crazy storm and being very trite with my bandmates for about 10 minutes.  :-[

Needless to say I looked like a jackass afterward.
I think moments like these are the fun. You remember them better than most things.

ahahahhahahaha, a friend of mine did that while we were setting up, and he was like "You gotta help me, help me, ben help me, Im not getting anything, help me"

and i said, "well, youve got all your ins in your outs and your outs in your ins."

Then we rocked the hell out!
I prefer their older stuff.

:) Ha, no doubt. It is a good kill switch.
The other funny part is that my drummer, of all the bandmates, was the only to propose that I messed up the cables.

Gigs are fun.

It can happen to anyone as we get older.

One of the first shows that I ever played (as a 16-year old) had us doing some Cure cover - A Forest, I think - and I was doing some keyboard intro stuff. The Korg keyboard that I was borrowing had a pitch/tuning dial on the backplate (where the input/output plugs are). During transport it had obviously moved a bit so when we started playing I was just out of tune enough with the other instruments to raise the hair on your neck. We had done a soundcheck but not with the instruments against the keyboard!
