fender supersonic

Post by mewithoutus » Sat Mar 10, 2007 4:16 am

i have been checking these out alot lately. ive played one before and really liked it. it seems to sound amazing, especially on the clean channel. the burn channel is sweet too. the blonde/oxblood looks awesome.

it seems to be almost as versatile as my classic 50. im thinking about ditching the classic 50 in favor of the supersonic head. any thoughts? anyone own one? anyone played one?

What happened to the classic 50 love?

The supersonic does sound good, though it has been around only for a little while. Whereas, the 50 is a proven reliable machine. I found myself constantly using the vibrolux mode of the amp. It's definitely loud. It does look good in oxblood and white covering, but I can't stand the faceplate--looks strange to me. I'd almost be inclined to have a custom plate made with the traditional logo font made so that I'd be completely happy with it.

I haven't ever done a side by side comparison, but if you really want to get rid of your classic 50... then I won't be upset  ;)  ;D

haha its not that i want to get rid of my 50. i love her. but, sometimes i feel like i want more volume. and im kinda wanting to try different sounds. who knows. its just a thought. i may have to stop playing music for a while and sell most of my gear just to survive cuz my dads business is going under and he might have to move to texas, so ill be homeless. oh crap.

this is my idea:

i get the head version (in blonde of course!) used. the effects loop is footwitchable, so i stick the echo park in the effects loop and leave it on all the time, sitting on top of the amp. ill use the tap tempo with my hand (i dont like adjusting it with my foot anyway, its kinda annoying trying to tap a good tempo with your foot) and just turn the effects loop on when i want delay. everything else will just run into the front of the amp. good idea?

im super stoked to see if i can get the supersonic.

I have a couple of complaints on the supersonic (I don't have one, but GASed for one and tested the heck out of it).

Don't buy it if you plan on switching between vibrolux and bassman in the middle of the same song (or set, for that matter) without altering the equalization. To get a good tone out of the vibrolux channel, you have the boost the bass a little and that way the bassman setting gets too bassy (and I do mean too bassy). Same goes for treble in bassman/vibrolux relation.

And I can't get over the fact that the head doesn't have reverb, and the combo is only 1x12.

Other than that, it's a great amp.

Ah man, sorry to hear about the financial misfortunes.
I know what you mean about wanting to try new sounds, etc. It's part of the reason I constantly upgrade or change gear as well. I usually just keep my delay in the effects chain, but old tube amps don't have a loop, so I don't usually have one to fuss over. Good idea, though.

It's true that the Vibrolux may have a bit more high end then the bassman, which would necessitate a boost in the bass, but some of that seemingly extra treble really helps place you just right in the mix.

I've been checking 'em out a lot too lately !

I havr not found too much love for this amp on various guitar & amp forums ! WHY ???

The owners of this amp that post over at FenderForum REALLY like it - the best feedback on this amp can be had over there !

I LOVE the Peavey Clasic range, but i seriously think the Supersonic out-class the C50 in every way !

Fender cristal clean, nice warm wooly clean on Bassman site & the DUAL cascading BURN side !!!
THREE great Fender tones from one amp - sounds like a winner to me !!!

I played one for half an hour, and compared to other new fenders, I didnt love it. The clean channels cannot be compared to other new fenders and the dirty channel cannot be used. I was looking foreward to this one but I think fender missed it. Dont get me wrong, its a good amp, its still a fender. haha But not up to other new fenders. The deluxes and devilles are cheaper but so much better.  I would buy one if it was going for really cheap, but only in blonde.

I'll hold my final choice until I can A/B one of these and a Twin Amp. But I'm not optimistic on the Supersonic's chances.

I'd trade my face for a new twin.
I prefer their older stuff.

I played a supersonic combo today and it had a reverb.

Yep, the combo has reverb, but the head doesn't. Even though there is the Holy Grail, this is a humongous drawback.
