Peavey Roadmaster Head
I first noticed this amp because Thurston Moore uses it. I've been reading up on it lately. It's looking mighty interesting indeed, but I was wondering if anyone here could enlighten me about it.
Also it's looking to be very hard to locate one. Any suggestions on where I might find one of these? They made them in the 80's.

Re: Peavey Roadmaster Head
never used one myself, but thurston certainly has gotten some great sounds out of it over the years, and from what i hear they are very reliable.
Re: Peavey Roadmaster Head
How much do you think they would go for if you found one just sitting in a store? If it isn't
then I am going to have my guitar teacher pick one up if he ever finds one when he is out cuz he goes to a ton of places just to look at shit haha, he is the man he is 23.

I have one, pretty much sounds like a standard very clean valve head..very loud powerful and powerful erm nothing amazing really. I got mine about 15 years ago for £150..I see them go for around £100-£150 today. I think there was one on ebay recently for about $200.

I doubt very much that the Peavey has much to do with Thurston's sound - it's just a reliable, powerful amp head that can handle all of his weird effects, tunings, feedback etc. I think of it as very much akin to Cobain's influence on the popularity of Univox guitars.
Peavey (especially the older stuff) is generally regarded as workhorse gear, reliable, if not to frilly or fancy. There's not really a "peavey sound" but in the larger scheme of things, that's often less important to musicians as reliability and (relative) low cost.

Exactly right. It just a big powerfull clean head which i think is the way to go..plug in all your effects to it and that's your sound.mjet260 wrote: I doubt very much that the Peavey has much to do with Thurston's sound - it's just a reliable, powerful amp head that can handle all of his weird effects, tunings, feedback etc. I think of it as very much akin to Cobain's influence on the popularity of Univox guitars.
