Opinions: Good Living Room Fender Combo?
Need something for the house to sit by the couch. Want something I can get loud if I ever needed to but mostly just a sit and jam while on the couch amp. Looking at single 12" speakered amps and up to be honest. 2 10"s, 2 12"s... even 4x10"s would be cool. It's for my girlfriend. She lives reverb and clarity but with the ability to get thick and dare I say crunchy without it being taken the wrong way?
She tried a Super-Sonic 112 and loved it. Wondering about other options before we spend the money.

I'll second the super-sonic combo. that's my living room and my 'take to a friend's jam session' amp.

Used Fender Hot Rod Deluxes can be found pretty cheap. (As low as $350, but usually around $400-500)
I highly recommend these amps, they are reliable and they sound great and clean. If you swap a preamp tube or two, they sound even better. The drive/more drive channel is great too.
The 40 watts is definitely enough for gigging, too!
Some people don't like them, but I put them against any Classic 30.
The HRD also got a Guitar Player magazine "pick" in the latest issue. They had a budget amp "shootout," and the HRD was tied with some B-52 thing for the win.

Thats a lot of amp (read:expensive) just for farting around with. If you can afford it go for it! Those things are sweet.heavenstreet wrote:

Word...Those amps are pretty awesome. The only reason I chose my twin over that is the 2x12 speaker sounds fuller to me, and the 85 watts vs 60? I think. But really, those supers are plenty loud to gig with. What color were you looking at? I think their is a white/oxblood version thats pretty hot.heavenstreet wrote: Sitting and jamming aint farting around when you are as good as me.![]()

If it's just for the living room and don't mind solid state... you can pick up a Fender Champion 110 for around or under $100 on the bay.
I scored one for like $76 and I really like it. I spent an extra $25 on the proper footswitch (reverb and channel) and it's a great little combo. I would think the same with the more recent Champion 30 and the like.
Much MUCH better than the student/budget Frontman Series and for the same money....
Edit: And FWIW, mine was MIA. It was probably some kid's Christmas present from the 90s and he never used it. It came to me like new.

I'm looking at the oxblood/white. If I had the money I'd get the 2x12 cab and the head, but thats pushing things into a different realm.

I want to get loud, but also want it to be small enough for my living room. It will end up at a show, I'm positive of that.

The head doesn't have reverb. And seriously, the combo is hella-loud. I've shocked people with how loud these things can get, and they're like "oh yeah my marshall mode four was 4x12s, blah blah balh... what? that's 1x12?!! no way!! that's pretty loud for one speaker!"heavenstreet wrote: I'm looking at the oxblood/white. Well it wasn't my living room but I used to be able to walk out of my house (which was a huge warehouse), take a left and walk to the corner and look right and there was (what at least used to be) Broncos stadium. After games was a bit intense... people EVERYWHERE shit faced trying to get back into their cars and drive home.
