Yes .. but please educate us!

I value the amplifier opinions of any man who uses a Fender Super Six as a home practice amp ..

I'm glad that I wasn't drinking anything when I read that reply!

Well, it all starts with a little company in Cambridge, England...

Seriously - I have been thinking about cobbling together a page with details and a bit of history of these amps. There were several famous users - Pink Floyd used them in the Live at Pompeii tour (though I'm not a huge Floyd fan, they're the kind of band that makes people at least pay attention when talking about transistor amps), Daniel Ash (I'm a big fan of his) used them, Marc Bolan (T-Rex) as well, and some other bands here and there (The Vapors, The Wedding Present amongst others). I was initially drawn to them because of their appearance - they have a perspex (plexiglass) control panel that is illuminated when it's on. Being a UK brand, they made much more of an impression in Europe than in the US.

I have several of their guitar heads which I've picked up very cheaply on eBay (German & UK), a bass head, and a bass combo. I just need to start writing up a bit on them so that I can get them into some kind of order for a webpage. I really just want to make it a resource for people who find them in their band practice rooms or in their closets and don't know where they fit into the musical puzzle.

I'm a Daniel Ash fan as well. I know that he used them, but that's about all I know about them. I've only ever seen one in a shop in the U.S.

Seems like the only people that Transistor amps found favor with was the punks/post mods...Gang of Four(Andy Gill?), Daniel Ash, Spacemen 3, Andy Summers used JC-120s along with his Marshalls...did Wire, Blixa Bargeld, Mission of Burma or Psychedelic Furs use Trannies?

My first amp was a Yamaha Trannie...I've been Valves only ever since...but I think the Raveonettes could use a fuzz box and a Trannie and get that first EP sound pretty easily.

JC-120s seem to be the exception among transistor amps .. a lot of guys use(d) them for clean sounds.

Isn't a lot of the Raveonettes' stuff (on recordings at least) direct to the board without any amps?

I'd like to see a pic of that .. I can't google up any at short notice.

This isn't mine but it's the only photo I have handy:

yes, but the first EP was even more rudimentary...he recorded the demos straight into a 4-track recorder and pushed the signal into clipping...he liked the sound so much he used it on the record. Brad Laner of Medicine used this trick as well...actually he's the first that I know of and he did it live too, the 4-track was velcro'ed to his amp.

I've used this trick a few times and Ken Gibson of the Furry Things did as well. my main point was rather than using tube amps for his live sound, if he wanted to sound more like the records, he should be using Transistors, or at least a clean amp like sliverface Twins or Hiwatts.

the one H||H that I've seen was a 2x12 just like that!

I actually don't have a single 2x12 combo, just heads. Here's a bass head from a recent eBay auction - the guitar heads look the same with the plastic side "ears".

I saw Anekdoten years ago and the bass player was using one of these heads.

And a few Daniel Ash shots from the last Bauhaus tour showing what look to be two HH heads atop a Marshall 4x12 cab.

I met Daniel at a 30 Seconds to Mars (actor Jared Letos band) gig in LA when I was there. Nice guy. Had no idea who he was. I just spoke to him cus he was british and asked what he did for a living.

Are you a fan?

I was one of like 15 people to see them at Knitting Factory about 5-6 years ago.

Nucleus is such a fantastic record.

Never heard of them in my life. I just spend too much time on Google looking for pictures of HH amps.  :-[

There's a guy in a band around here that has one of those H|H heads. As far as i remember, it sounded pretty good.
