Re: Setup of the day
I pulled out my FX500 to play around with. My band has our first gig since covid next month, and we have a few shoegazey noise rave-ups, more Spacemen 3 than MBV. But wanted to take along some reverse reverb to add that glide guitar texture once we build things up. Found my preferred settings on the FX500 and pretty much matched them on my Hardwire RV7. The RV7 doesn't have a volume drop, and while it might not be 100% spot-on Loveless, I can attest that the RV7 can very capably do the Yamaha reverse early reflections thing. And I set my FX500 to match my SPX90, so y'know, it's pretty legit. But I *do* love folding in a layer of Symphonic modulation on the FX500, which the pedal can't do.
Here's the settings, try it yourself if you like. Again, not MBV-accurate, but that's not what I'm after, just my own take on the hue.
I used to scoff like everyone else when Shields would say things like "there's so few guitar tracks" and "it's mostly strumming technique with that all-wet reverse reverb". But I'll be damned if it doesn't seem like he was telling the truth all along.

Thanks for that! I might be looking for a new RAT sometime soon, so I just went back through that thread, and I missed that you gave that review. I think, especially based on an overwhelming consensus, that I need to try an original RAT. I've always felt that most modern clones are better than originals (like how the EQD Plumes holds onto bass frequencies better than actual Tubescreamers), but it seems like for RAT, the original might be the best. Re: Setup of the day
Just get a good solid early-to-mid 90s Rat. Bulletproof. Sound great. I've had the same one since 1994 and it's been Ruetz modded for about the last 15 years or so. I've yet to find an all-purpose drive/distortion I like more. Works awesome for bass too.Shadoweclipse13 wrote: ↑Fri Dec 17, 2021 11:06 amThanks for that! I never found much use for the gain past about 1 o'clock in stock form so the Ruetz is perfect. YMMV. Sometimes the original is the best.

Re: Setup of the day
So, my OBNE order came last week. Still haven't messed with the Expression Ramper (need to get a little stereo cable for it), but the Signal Blender is SO good. I tried it as 2 parallel loops as well as a 2-channel splitter to different amps. I realized that for my own rig, parallel is definitely cool and maybe a bit underrated, and 2 amps with different effects can be SUPER cool.
Among the different combinations I tried:
-EQD Hoof in 1 loop parallel to my IdiotBox
Power Booster, as well as to different amps.
-Tremolo before the Signal Blender, with 1 loop
going to an OBNE Dark Star to 1 amp, with the
other loop having my Caroline Kilobyte and a
reverb going to another amp. This was amazing.
The Dark Star was set to drown out any Signal,
but going to its own amp to do just that, when I
had another amp for the "actual notes and
playing" was incredibly cool sounding.
I don't know how I will set it up on my board for good, but it will be on there. I still want to try it where each bypass loop has one side of my EHX 720 looper, but I'll wait for when I have more time. I like the idea of using it as my bypass loop box for my delays and reverbs (delays in one loop, reverb in another).
One thing I don't know if you guys know, but the OBNE Signal Blender has EQD calls the flexi-switching, for at least the 2 bypass loops, if not all 3 switches. For that alone, I'm tempted to get another to use as my bypass loop switch for my gain and tremolo.

Re: Setup of the day
Just got this Dano baritone earlier today and I've been fooling around with it through the usual rig. I just recently got the JHS Compressor and despite my previous negative experiences with compressors I actually really like this one. I think the blend knob helps quite a bit.

I could easily jam out to some Evens songs with this rig.s_mcsleazy wrote: ↑Sun Jan 09, 2022 1:21 ami dunno why but this setup to me screams "00's era dischord records"Jonesie wrote: ↑Sat Jan 08, 2022 10:05 amJust got this Dano baritone earlier today and I've been fooling around with it through the usual rig. Re: Setup of the day
There's a bunch of redundancies in this rig, but I'm having a really great time with it. There's so many different combinations of the various boosts that really open up different sounds and textures. The Telecaster has Duncan '55s in it and the amp is an AD5.

Re: Setup of the day
It’s a really great little amp. I’ve had it for a long time now. I turn it up just enough that it can be clean-ish or kind of dirty depending on pickups and how hard I play. Throw a booster (or 4 ) into the mix and there are quite a few sounds in there.

Re: Setup of the day
Setup for the experiment-happy band: Microkorg w custom presets/JM -> an A/B/C box w separate in-built clean boosts a friend built me (not using one of the inputs with this band) -> tuner -> Rattler -> Wooly Mammoth clone -> DOD Rubberneck w Dwarfcraft Wizard of Pitch in loop -> Polara Reverb -> Klon clone as always-on pre-amp to lend my clean Tremolux a bit of grit.
