Simple loopers with varispeed/reverse/sync

Post by jorri » Sat Nov 26, 2022 5:33 am

Things are overkill with my board at the moment. I am not rich enough to keep my Hologram Microcosm and want something simple i dont keep having to fiddle with.

Varipeed/reverse and midi sync are a must. Doesn't have to be continuous but would be cool to have more than just 1 octave up. Been looking at the pigtronix infinity 2. Sure, extra features to handle a few layers could be nice.

(Also, i end up using the Microcosm for some kind of "general hazy granular sound" so maybe i should just find a specialised pedal for that which is affordable...lysergic emotions module interested me but i want even cheaper ideally, and less options.

If the Hologram 'microloop' or 'haze' preset was just singular box to stomp on, and its looper made separate. Not that I am particularly attached to the sound features of either, for something so expensive, perhaps another will inspire me more- less modular ambience, more tailored for louder music etc.

Would the EHX 720 or 1440 serve your needs?

Looks like it unless i need dual-loops of the infinity 3. But i still have the trusty Smm/hazarai so maybe that's a permanent feature that will never be taken off my board!

What do people think of the Bakleng or Tomkat Cloudy? They seem like potentially more usable alternatives to the Microcosm for my use of setting once and letting them churn out a random haze in LOUD situations.

Baklengs arrived! Yep this is exactly it. It can do harsh things as well as ambient, with plenty of sounds within a few knobs.
Thought sonetimes it wasn't quite as lush as Hologram until i realised i just needed to turn on a reverb pedal, so now its better, way less 'mushy' and 'uncontrollable'. The advantage is that mire ambient effect is then totally optional through combination rather than a big multifx of presets- i have lots of pedals already for that!
Accidentally used 12v, i don't think most pedals would be harmed but it changed the sounds, into bit less soft and sharper. Put it back on 9v though, bit scared to do that, and warmer sounds closer to the dry signal for me.

So i am getting 1440, and on a binge a TC BB and RE-2 as delays which will be interesting. Wonder if i keep both. Turned into a whole reorganisation where i actually end up with more money than i started.

Considered a source audio spectrum envelope filter for those other Microcosm patches (seq filter and tunnel filter are cool, big flowing synth trigger sounds) but not sure I'd use it, i feel more likely to be using an actual synth or my Yamaha CP phaser by that point. Maybe one day though. Wonder if the simple Ehx Microsynth is more what i really want with those triggered fat sounds anyway.

..if only the filter section was available as standalone pedal of the microsynth🤔 maybe someone has done that, i dontthink fuzz and octaves are things i dont already have taking up pedalboard real-estate.
