And out of five models, two* are actually based on GOOD amps!
i love my 900 but it's very much a 1 trick pony. like to me, it sounds like 90's punk. me and my amp tech were talking about what will/wont become a classic. he thinks because the 900 was so loved by 90's punk, it will remain a classic. but later marshalls won't because they weren't really embraced by the musicians of the time. the jcm2000 or the JVM comes to mind because i was getting into guitar around that time and everyone had jumped ship to amps from mesa boogie OR had just stuck with their 800's and 900's.Dr Tony Balls wrote: ↑Wed Jan 22, 2025 10:16 amAnd out of five models, two* are actually based on GOOD amps!

Funny you say that. I used to really want the JCM 2000 because of System of a Down guitarist Daron Malakian allegedly used them. I never ever have even played one.s_mcsleazy wrote: ↑Thu Jan 23, 2025 4:14 ami love my 900 but it's very much a 1 trick pony. like to me, it sounds like 90's punk. me and my amp tech were talking about what will/wont become a classic. he thinks because the 900 was so loved by 90's punk, it will remain a classic. but later marshalls won't because they weren't really embraced by the musicians of the time. the jcm2000 or the JVM comes to mind because i was getting into guitar around that time and everyone had jumped ship to amps from mesa boogie OR had just stuck with their 800's and 900's.Dr Tony Balls wrote: ↑Wed Jan 22, 2025 10:16 amAnd out of five models, two* are actually based on GOOD amps!

I loved my DSL100, great amp that had "that" sound all the modern (pop-) punk bands used in the 2000's and 2010's.s_mcsleazy wrote: ↑Thu Jan 23, 2025 4:14 ami love my 900 but it's very much a 1 trick pony. like to me, it sounds like 90's punk. me and my amp tech were talking about what will/wont become a classic. he thinks because the 900 was so loved by 90's punk, it will remain a classic. but later marshalls won't because they weren't really embraced by the musicians of the time. the jcm2000 or the JVM comes to mind because i was getting into guitar around that time and everyone had jumped ship to amps from mesa boogie OR had just stuck with their 800's and 900's.Dr Tony Balls wrote: ↑Wed Jan 22, 2025 10:16 amAnd out of five models, two* are actually based on GOOD amps!

Honestly, I kinda doubt it will... There are already several pedals that do a pretty great job of simulating the preamp section of various Marshalls (the what, why, and how of those preamp circuits have been known for decades). If none of them do it for you then it's not the preamp section your ear thinks is missing, it's the power section; and the power section isn't something that can be simulated in a pedal.
Completely agree with this. I think most amp in the box pedals are kind of a crock. They can sound cool but they rarely sound like their inspiration, to my ears.
Great find....will check outJackFawkes wrote: ↑Tue Feb 18, 2025 12:32 pmHonestly, I kinda doubt it will... P.S.: For what it's worth, the best sounding (and responding) JMC800 pedal to my ear is the Sushi Box FX JC Emerald - which makes sense since it's literally the preamp circuit, tubes and all, with a couple extra QoL improvements... still lacks the heft of the power section though; that has to be provided by whatever amp it's running into.
