Caroline Shigeharu Fuzz

Post by Jonesie » Mon Apr 14, 2025 12:20 pm

I just got the Germanium version of one of these today, and I love it. Kinda feels / sounds like a Muff, but with midrange, and it isn't honky, it just cuts. I'm surprised this pedal doesn't get talked about more, because it has quickly become a favorite fuzz, usurping my MXR Silicon Fuzz Face.

Anyone else using the Germanium or original Op Amp ones?

I picked up one of the first batch of germanium Shigeharus. I'm not certain how different it is from the regular ones, but it ended my search for a fuzz for my gig board. The Shigeharu hits right pretty much every time it sounds good low or high gain, and it definitely cuts through with the midrange control. I haven't used the octave on the switch much. I should probably set it for always on and then dial it in for different songs.

In more jamming with it tonight I've found that I kinda dig the octave switch as a boost. I can imagine it'd be great for pushing a guitar over the top in a mix for a solo. I really need to try more Caroline stuff, because this blew me away.

I've wanted a Shigeharu for awhile and the germanium version looks and sounds like a winner. Caroline seems like such a cool company, and they make some amazing stuff. I was yearning for the Meteore for quite some time, and have my eye on the Kilobyte 2000 as well. It's only a matter of time before I end up with something from them.
